How do I start writing a book?

trying to get a story up on wattpad but I'm not really sure where to start

Report as

First get a note pad and write down all the characters. Then sum up what the story is about. Then write what chapter 1 is about, then what chapter 2 is about and so on.

Yes, I agree with dannie105 but if you want it to be published then you should go on the website of scholastic or a book company and email them the link to your book. ( you should type it up in microsoft word)

try sequencing the events, on the computer if possible, but leaving plenty of spaces for other events in between (I mean, I usually have two ideas but no way to connect them ) then start adding little details underneath each event. Then start writing :)

Start asking yourself these questions:

What do I want the reader to get out of my book?

Do I want my book to be fiction or non-fiction?

Get a piece of paper and start writing down some ideas you want in you book.

Get some advice from friends and family about what they think you should write about and then begin writing you book(I recommend you type up you book so if you make any mistakes you can just go back and fix your problem(s) in a short amount of time! :)

Good Luck!

*For fiction writing*
First, get some inspiration. If you have that already, great! If you don't, don't just sit around and wait. Get motivated!
Next, find your topic. Is the book about a genius who has lost his mind? A jellybean in an Easter basket? A stray dog who needs to find their home?
Once you have chosen your topic, come up with characters. Try to stick with names that are more creative: Pepin, Caledon, Bandele, etc. Figure out WHO these people are, deep down inside. Be your characters!
Find a setting: time & place. "A third-world country near the ocean in present day."
Come up with a problem. "Tilia lost her mother and father in a flood, and as a child, she needs to find a way out."
Develop a simple plot line. Introduction, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. This is harder than you might think.
Then weave in other plots to make it more complicated, and therefore, a novel. Sub-plots are nice, but you can always have more than one plot.
Start writing and fill in the details. It's easier when you have done the plot lines. Try not to squish it all together. That makes it short, but don't spread everything out.
Revise, edit, re-write. Repeat.
Publish!

Good luck!!! :-)

Think about what type of story you want it to be.; Romance, comedy, drama, mystery, etc. Then think about some good books/movies you have read/watched with this type of genre. Then think what KIND of characters you want.; dogs, cats, rabbits, humans, aliens, etc. The possibilities are endless! Then think about setting; mars, earth, present, future, etc. Take a few notes and make a plot chart!

if it is a si/fi than figure out who your characters are going to be there likes diss likes. where they are from if there parents are alive or dead what kind of relation ship they have, if they have a lot of friends, if they are shy ir out going, is they walk the line between good and bad, how old are they? how tall are they, what religion are they, think about where they are that there jobs are how they met is there gonna be anything tragic, is there drugs, is there poker, basically first you have to figure out who you want your characters are before you can start doing any thing els

My best advice is this: write what you care about. Write what you know about. There are plenty of different websites that can give you advice, depending on what genre you're planning. My favorite website is "Superhero Nation: How to Write A Superhero Book." It's great if you're planning on writing a book about superheroes. If you're not, well, the best thing to do is planning, planning, planning! Before writing even a first word on Chapter One, figure everything out, all the kinks, bugs, problems...everything! In fact, it takes most authors months, if not years to plan everything before they begin to write their story. Happy writing, and don't forget to use your imagination.

The way people start writing a story or even a novel is completely different, for every person. The way it comes to me is by what I experience. I had so many ideas for a book and even a movie, but one saying. The way they always come to me is by the ending. I always imagine the ending. Never the beginning, I don't know why. I just do. What I'm trying to say is that, it won't be easy, but you will know when you think of it.

Well, to start off you need a good idea. Once you get an idea, just start thinking of the characters and their traits that you would want them to have for their roles. You don't really NEED to start off writing your story from the very beginning. Some people will start writing the end or some other part. It's sometimes a good idea to start from off from a part other than the beginning so you know how to build it up from the beginning to that point. But it's different for a lot of people. I hope you do well! ;)

Sometimes wait to have a strange dream, then base your story on what you dreamed. I have many book excerpts based off my dreams.
Think of something that can bring you to tears, whether sad, romantic, etc. Try to put those emotions out onto the paper. Or Wordpad/Microsoft Word I'd recommend, so you can save and alter without starting all over.

I enjoy http://www.wattpad.com You can publish your story as you go. You can ask for advise, ask people to critique and help edit, ask what you need to do to improve. Don't be offended at the advise, have a thick skin. Start threads in the club of your genre, enter writing contests-pinned at the beginning of the Short Story Club of all places! Good luck.

Well, it really depends what its based on. Say if it was about.... Some scary dream that came to life, you'd start off maybe with; I screamed. The hairy, red man crept closer, whispering mumbo-jumbo to me, spraying spit in my face. And so on, it makes the readers more curious and they'd want to read on!

Lay out the plan: title page, info page, dedication, chapters & index page. If it is an information book you then write the chapters (fill it in). If it is a novel you need a good ending or dramatic conclusion so write that first. If you have no good ideas...no book until you get inspired.

First you want to list the problem the character is going to have to face, then you need to come up with characters to support him/her or bring him/her down. Next comes a resolution. and you want to build your story based on how you want it to end.
