He sets rules for you because he loves you. I'm 15, and I'm not allowed to watch Simpsons, and a LOT of other shows (even ones that most people are allowed to watch.) You'd be surprised about the stuff I'm not allowed to watch.
Because he wants you to be a fine person and not turned out like most of the people in this world. TV makes people act dumb. He doesnt want you to become like that watching those shows. He is helping you grow up with a clear mind with which it will be easy for you to be mature. Unlike many people in the world.
I used to let my daughter watch "All My Children" with me from the time she was about 11. Oddly enough, watching it together gave me lots of opportunities to talk to her about what kinds of behavior was not appropriate, and get her feelings on things. There would never have been a reason to bring up such topics for discussion otherwise. I'd ask her about the story lines of the young people, and whether anything like that went on with people she knew. It really was an excellent way to open the lines of communication between us. She's now 28 and has an excellent head on her shoulders. Talk to your dad about this, he just MIGHT agree!
Maybe he feels like it condones many things that he finds immoral. Such as living together unmarried, gay rights, having children out of wedlock - especially purposely. I do watch the show, and I like it. But these are all issues in the show. This world is not the same one he grew up in. Kudos to him. His way of saying it was wrong then and it's wrong now and I don't want my kids to think this is the norm.
