Today is called good friday but ist is the day jesus was killed..... why is it called good friday.....

is it me just me or anyone else confused...........cant find a good category...

Report as

Well, Good Friday was the day Jesus was crucified an took our sins to the cross. So it's 'good' because that was the day that Christians could accept Christ as their Saviour and let their sins hang from the cross. I hope this helps!

He wasn't exactly killed, more of he sacrificed himself for us. Therefore giving himself up for us... But I can't actually answer your question.

Heh. Admitting that Jesus was killed, not sacrificing himself. By the way, he was Jewish, not Christian. I find this to be an especially good Friday.

So he can't sacrifice himself and be killed too? >:(
Report as
El oh el, not rebutting the fact that he was Jewish?

Anyways. He angered the Jews (weirdly ironic), the Romans strung him up, and Christianity wasn't established for 100+ years afterwards. No, he didn't die for Christianity.
Report as
He was born to die!
He gave himself up for the sacrifice/ as a sin offering-payment for the sins of ALL mankind......past and present and future!
BUT HE ROSE ON THE THIRD DAY!
Defeating Satan and the penalty of the payment(eternal death) for our sin!
We, who believe have that HOPE in
that PROMISE that HE lives, we will
too!
HE SAID: i go to prepare a place for you and if i go, i will come again to recieve you unto Myself!
Report as
You just stated he was forced into eternal death. And you all state he was Christian, that he died for our sins, and that he was given eternal death while saying he's going to come back? You guys need to get your stories straight.

And mankind wasn't a sin. God told Adam and Eve NOT to partake of the fruit, and of course they were going to, it's instinct. We are a curious species. And, if he is the "all knowing, all seeing" he would have known what they were doing, would have seen the solution (just telling them to stop) and our "sin" (after thousands of years, he woud have forgiven us by now, especially since we didn't take any part in the "sin") wouldn't have even been MADE. You all state he's the One, the true god who is almighty, but he couldn't even stop some kids from eating a piece of fruit. Which by the way, didn't mkae them realise they wre naked until AFTER they both had eaten. Adam didn't notice they were naked before she took a bite, nope. They realised it afterwards. Thus proving it was no accident, as if it were to truly do that, it would have happened to one then the other after biting. I think if God really exists, he waited for the moment, and then turned them mortal. This was all planned.

Jesus wasn't a Christian. He was Jewish. You are right. But his teachings are what Christianity is about.
Report as
Then why aren't all Christians Jewish? If he was Jewish, spoke for the jews, why aren't you all? Just thought you were better than Jews? I bet that's what it was.
Report as
If you haven't noticed the old testament of the bible is the same as the Torah. The New Testament is just a continuation.

You're dodging the question.

What was the question again?

Why aren't Christians Jewish? Jesus was Jewish, Christianity wasn't created for at least 100 years afterwards. He wasn't sacrificed, he was killed because the Jews and Romans were angered by him. He was tortured, he wasn't "God"s child. God wasn't even a deity, wasn't ever the gleam in someones eye when he died.
Report as
wasn't even*
Report as
You seem to be going of topic too. The reason why Christians aren't Jewish is because Jewish people don't believe Jesus was the son of god. Christians do. And I'm talking about after Christianity was an organized religion. Before that it was Jews practicing differently.
Report as
Oh can't think of a response? BOOM!! What's what's up!!!
Report as
I could have responded, but my life doesn't revolve around Ask.com. I just got back on... So... Anyways.

Jewish people don't believe Jesus was God's son because God wasn't a deity when Jesus was born. That's what I said before, you're just too blind to read it like I said it. And you can't say Christianity is based around someone who wasn't Christian, like I said. His real name was actually Yeshua. Now if you're finished quoting something incorrect, I have better things to do.

maybe because of what he died for he said he was Jesus but others thought he was crazy I think that's it (that's what my grandma told me anyway)

IF I was a Christian, which I'm not, I would think of Good Friday as the day of the promise, the promise of salvation. Easter is the day the promise was kept. I don't believe it; I don't want anybody to have died for my sake EVER. But I respect people who believe this; it's their right to believe what their hearts tell them.

Are you old enough to have children?
And if you needed to protect that child, would you not die to protect that child?
Why? Because of your sacrificial LOVE for them!
That love for your child is only a "drop in the bucket" compared to the emense LOVE God has for us!
Its the Greatest love that someone would lay down his life for a friend!

Did I preach to you about your beliefs being wrong? No. Then don't preach to me about mine.
Report as
Lillypad, he said he wouldn't want someone to die for HIS sake, he never said he wouldn't do so for someone else. And why would "God" wait for us when he could have ended our species at any time? It's because he wants more followers, if it's even real. He is coveting, jealous (sins) and basically a child with super being prowess who throws tantrums when he doesn't get what he wants.

Hi, Staro. There are two possible origins for the name "Good Friday". The first may have come from the Gallican Church in Gaul (modern-day France and Germany). The name "Gute Freitag" is Germanic in origin & literally means "good" or "holy" Friday. The second possibility is a variation on the name "God's Friday," where the word "good" was used to replace the word "God," which was often viewed as too holy to be spoken aloud.
I know as a Christian, it seems hard to look at this day as being good, doesn't it, Staro? But if we look at it as God's Friday, (and as I researched this, it also helped me) it made me think that this day IS all about HIM, all about what HE did for us. And how much better a day (besides resurrection Sunday) than the day He gave His life for us so that we may live a life of eternal salvation? I guess I will forever now look at it that way. I think we should look at it as a day of complete reverence & prayerfully thank Him every time we think of it throughout the day for the sacrifice He made for us.

Good Friday[nb 1] is a religious holiday observed primarily by Christians commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary. The holiday is observed during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday, and may coincide with the Jewish observance of Passover. It is also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, Black Friday,[1] or Easter Friday,[2][3][4] though the latter properly refers to the Friday in Easter week.
WE ARE NOT HAPPY HE DIED BUT HIS BLOOD WASHED AWAY ALL OUR SINS AND WE THAT BELIEVE HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE.

Good Friday is good for the human race because God who is Jesus Christ in our image sacrificed Himself feeling all the pain of the whips of razors was in another words paying our debt off that was with us when we were born from Adam an Eve.The original sin we are born with. By Jesus's resurrection He came back perfect to show us if we follow Him that will be our destiny. He is with us every day our Holy Spirit. That is our trinity God the Father the Son an Holy Spirit.Good Friday He suffered an died Easter He Risen forever
