How to convince my parents I have OCD?

they won't believe me, even though my mom has OCD. I told them that I repeat actions until they feel just right. Or unnecessarily rereading an essay before handing it in. Repeating things to myself when people say certain words. having to go back and adjust things until they are perfect. having inappropriate thoughts I cannot control. having to win a game a certain number of times and starting over once I've lost. I only like even numbers. the tv volume has to be at an even number. tapping on the walls or windows so something bad does not happen. having to go to the bathroom before bed about twenty times even if I don't have to go. drawers or cupboards left open drive me insane. slight things set me off and make me angry. I can't drink out of mugs or plastic cups only glass. I constantly check all the doors are locked and have to have all the lamps in the house off. reading things backwards and checking my alarm a million times. counting all the lines on a page when reading. pushing objects away from the edge of a table...ect. there's just a few

I think your chief focus should be trying to get rid of or dealing with O.C.D. What about posing a question on Ask to ex-sufferers who can give you some suggestions on how to deal with it? Someone who freed themselves from repetitive behavioural patterns might be able to help you.

What about requesting to be seen by a professional like a psychologist? If you can get a diagnosis from one of them, your parents would have to believe you.

You can talk to them about it or check it out with a doctor first, show them the reports. Tell them you're serious and I'm sure things will work out. :)

Who cares. Something that makes us different also makes us unique and special. It's not always a bad thing! Why change? Embrace it and use it for your own advantage. Why worry about what you have or might not have. Live life and enjoy being you with all your good traits and strange quirks. At least you are not a serial killer, I hope!?!?

OCD is not glamorous. It's a disorder that causes many stresses in daily life and should not have to be "proven" or "justified." If you truly do have OCD, then you should not feel the need to broadcast it to people and make them believe you. Just do your impulses and if someone asks why you're doing them, say you feel the compulsion to and that it MAY be OCD. Don't worry about trying to prove anything to your parents, just live life and be happy!

I'm in full support of you searching for answers, but I have to tell you that as a hypochondriac I would stay away from looking up too much. If you have OCD and it's really frustrating you as well as talking away important time, I would look into meditating. Hiking or any other calming outdoor activities can help and sometimes getting away from those objects that cause compulsive actions is the best thing to do. I hope you can find a way to manage your compulsions!
