Boiling hot water on their nest , wipes them out ! If they've made a trail around your house , just pour the water on the trail ! Someone said the other day that if you put out a small pile of cornmeal , it will kill them ! Don't know if it's true or not , but you might try that too !
Go to a health food store and buy a bottle of oil of pennyroyal. Use a small paintbrush to paint all the door sills and windowsills of your home--the oil seriously confuses their sense of smell, and they won't cross it. And, by the way, it smells like really strong peppermint, and is quite pleasant, so don't worry about it smelling up your house.
I swear I live on an ant burial ground. All kidding aside I HAD to find something that would help deter them, besides all of the many other methods I'd tried. I read about a kid that won this huge contest whereby he was able to find something that would get rid of ants. So I tried it, and IT WORKED!! It is simple Baby Powder. I've tried it on many different amounts of ants and each time it was successful. I've used it to get rid of thousands of ants. It always works. Here's the catch. It does NOT kill them! It will make them go away. Just place the Baby Powder everywhere you don't want ants; a line in front of doorways, inside planters, on top humming bird feeders etc. Ants don't like it. During summer just get used to the little piles. Refresh after rain or watering or if you see any new ants. Good Luck.
