One of the biggest and most important responsibilities of a citizen in a democratic society would be to vote. It is a right that many people have fought and died for.

The reason citizens have responsibilities in a democracy is because, a democracy is a government where everyone has a say unlike a monarchy, oligarchy ,or a tyranny. Since the citizens have fought and died to have these rights (i.e choosing politicians, making bills, etc.) in return the government basically says "okay you want this rule/law/person then you have to obey it" and they have to do this because it's all reciprocal.

I think if we didn't have voting then we would be fighting over what laws to make, or other important things. Like for example we had a shutdown in government because they couldn't decide on what to spend the money on.
