Whats a Good Starter Vehicle to Buy?

As a first Car. that's under $20,000 and that's reliable....

You know I'm going to answer this with a good Toyota Corolla or Camry ! Great long lasting cars ! Good prices too ! Or if you want a truck , the Tacoma is a great truck !

Agree MJW - Toyota makes fantastic cars & trucks w/ few troubles. Toyotas are solid, smooth as glass, wonderful vehicles, whichever model you choose. However, do avoid the past few year's models that had gas pedal/floor mat issues. Aside from this issue, they are still one of the best car brands out there.
(Choose a model that has a grill you like better. It doesn't have to be brand new.)

Something cheap, used, Japanese, with a manual transmission. I personally love Subarus.

@ MrJohnWayne: Do you recommend Dodge Ram compared to Toyota tundra?
Report as
Do not purchase a Dodge Ram over a Tundra.
Report as
I would , Yes ! I don't think much of Tundra's and they're gas pigs ! When it comes to big trucks , I think the Ram is the best of the bunch !
Report as
Sorry my bad, I was thinking of the Hilux. Like I said, I'm not a Toyota guy.

Honda or Toyota. Most reliable cars and won't collapse like a tin can if in an accident.

With 20,000 for your starter car, you should be able to do some research and find a great amount of vehicles for that. You can find a couple of used/new cars for that much. Below I have linked a great source, and searching for your price range!

With $20,000 to spend the market of compacts and mid sized cars is your for the taking.. go for high miles per gallon and longevity Honda comes to mind but with Subaru following closely there are so many others Course if you've got a family a minivan is always a good buy full size I'm partial to Chrysler (Dodge) they just keep going.
