Is it illegal if a teacher tweets to you?

whenever my friend tweets during class her Spanish teacher tweets to her don't tweet in class, even when she's not in his class. I have a twitter but I only tweet during lunch and he tweets to me and in my school we're allowed to use our phones in lunch. is this illegal?

Twitter is for tweeting. You won't get arrested for tweeting tweets.

No there is no law against it. However, if the teacher really wanted to, she could just take away your classmate's phone and have Twitter blocked from the school server.

No. I'm friends with my 2nd grade teacher on Facebook and I'm 15 and she's a good family friend now.

No. You can tweet anyone you want. It is perfectly legal for a teacher to tweet a student, especially if she's telling them to stop tweeting in her class. She could even legally take your or your friends phone for however long she pleases.

Not illegal but he is pushing the bounds of professionalism. If he does not like her behavior he needs to tell her in person, in class only. Or her parents. This sort of juvenile, behind the scenes personal communication gets grown men into trouble. Problems often start w/ minor comments like this then become flirtatious. For his own good he needs to stop. (And I may be reading more into this than I should. Sorry if so.)

bentheredunthat has the perfect answer for this question.
I think this is more a matter of ethics and impropriety rather than legality.

Not illegal, but a bit unprofessional. Teachers are, in most states, mandatory reporters, meaning they are legally obligated to report risky teen behavior as they become aware of it. If I friended my students on Facebook or twitter I'd have the computer in one hand and the cops on speed dial in the other.

The government never said against it, but the government never said it was allowed.

It is both inappropriate and unprofessional.

Just remember, everying twittered, tweeted, face booked, emailed - is all public record, so if anything DOES happen, this can all be used for or against you in a court of law.
