If we go on a trip where can we leave our dog in Georgia? Or can you name some hotels that allow dogs in Florida?

Ps. The dog can't be anywhere where people are going to pet him. We want him to be a guard dog and that will most like mess him up. He isn't going to bite those people he's only 11 weeks, but we need him to either be with us or go somewhere like I described.

I travel with my dog all of the time, but there is more to consider than just the hotel. Most hotels that allow pets do not allow them to be left in the room alone, so you would have to take your dog with you where ever you go. If you plan on going shopping or something of that nature, your dog wont be able to go into the stores and wont be able to stay in the car if it is warm outside, so unless it is a pocket size dog, like a chihuahua that rides in your purse, then you need to think of doggy daycare on days where your dog can not go.

One hotel chain that almost always takes dogs and can be found almost everywhere is Best Western, they are very pet friendly, but you might want to make reservations in advance and double check that they allow dogs.

If you decide to leave your dog at home, boarding is your best bet. Most kennels will board dogs and some vets will do it as well. Look in the phone book for kennels or talk to your vet, if your vet doesn't do it someone in his office will know someone that does. Your dog will have to get bordatella shots as well as his other vaccines up to date before it can be boarded anywhere. This is to protect your dog from disease.

Petting your dog won't mess him up, the trip will. Especially if you want to leave your dog in Georgia while you continue on to Florida. The separation anxiety at this age would be more than enough. There are many "pet friendly" hotels however, you did not indicate which area of Florida you are visiting. In my opinion, as to not stress out your 11 week old puppy, board him where you live and pick him up when you return or hire a pet sitter so your puppy can remain in the surroundings he is accustom to. If you still wish to find pet friendly hotels in Florida, a location would be helpful and I can then post in the comment section. Enjoy your trip.

Thank you much, he looks like a pit do you think hotels will still let him come in since he's a puppy?

I am so happy for you Angel. By the way, any trainer for attack dogs will advise your puppy needs petting and love from anyone at this time. Once trained as an "attack" dog, it will know who is a danger to you and your family and the protective instincts will kick in. With all due respect, being a staunch advocate against cruelty and inhumane treatment of animals, I hope your "baby" is being trained by a professional. This breed of dog, if not trained properly, can even attack and turn on you and those closest to you. Again, enjoy your trip and I am thrilled it all worked out.

Apologies, "guard" dog. I wish we could see the question as we type our comments. = )

Yes, I suppose so. He isn't a pit he just looks like one, so I thought people might not want him in their hotel.

Any pet friendly hotel is just that. All puppies are irresistible. I am just glad it worked out for you so you wouldn't be separated. Enjoy!

LOTS of hotels/ motels take dogs! Why don't you check Priceline or Hotels.com?

SherryA ... nailed it.

Lots of hotels allow pets for a fee .. but you can not leave your pet alone in the room at ANY time because often dogs bark and will disturb other guests.
