Which is heavier? A pound of muscle or a pound of fat?

I work out every day and my weight hasn't changed for two weeks.

Report as

Exactly the same. One pound of anything is the same as one pound of another thing. Was this trick question involuntary?

I have heard muscle weighs more than fat and the more muscle you have the more fat you burn.

I would think a pound of muscle , but I'm just guessing here , using common sense ! Sometimes as we get a little older , the fat doesn't burn off as fast , or at all ! Usually , if I work out as much as I am able , it's eating right that helps the most ! Lots of fibre and fruit and minimal dairy and meat products work the best for me ! Last time I went to to the Doc in Jan . , I was 5 pounds over weight . I lost that just by cleaning up my diet ! You may be strengthening up your muscles and gaining some bulk that way ! Give it time , you'll see or feel the difference !

The pound of muscle is lighter.
You mentioned the pound of fat second, so now you have a pound of fat, and a pound of muscle.

Good point panda!
Report as
Yeah, cause the muscle does something maybe even helps you carry it. The fat just hangs there.

Are we talking avoirdupois or troy? A pound is a pound but troy ounces weigh more than avoirdupois ounces.

What? or what? I'm talking April Fool's joke ;)
Report as
I thought that looked like a repeat. Gold is measured in troy ounces. 12 ounces in a pound instead of 16 but the pounds are still the same.
I wish I could trade all my pounds of fat for pounds of gold. I'd be RICH!

A pound is a pound.A pound of fat would float in water and a pound of muscle would sink however,as muscle is more dense than fat.

Neither. They both weigh one pound, but the muscle looks a whole lot better on you. If you are building muscle that puts weight on but since you lose calories with all the exercise, that evens it out pretty much. If you try jogging or swimming you'll lose weight.

The weight is the same, the mass is different. To understand the difference let me ask you this: if I were to stand on a ladder 10' above you with two sacks, one containing 50 lbs of iron, and the other contained 50 lbs of feathers, which one would you rather I drop on your head?

Helpful (3) Fun (2) Thanks for voting Comments (3)
Report as
Thanks for answering. I wouldn't want either one dropped on my head....the feather bag would be huge and would kill me just as easily as the bag of iron.
Thanks for your answer, don't know if you've read any other answers or my posted comments, but I asked this question on April Fool's Day just for some fun.

A pound of muscle takes up less space than a pound of fat. In health class we were taught not to lose hope if we were working out and eating right but the scale wasn't moving, because you're losing fat but gaining muscle.
