Does lava really melt things very fast?

It's molten , boiling hot rock ! Sure it will melt anything pretty darn fast !

It depends on the temperature of the lava and the material that's melting. For example, geologists can collect lava samples by tossing a hammer head on a chain into the lava, pulling it out, and throwing it in a bucket full of water. But if they just threw the hammer in there, yes it would melt eventually.

Lava is at 700-1200 deg C so it will melt many common metals except iron and steel (approx 1350 to 1500 deg C) and burn wood etc.

Of corse it comes from the magmatic off all volcanos it's pretty hot it's molten it's very hot if you but the coldest thing in the world it will melt

Different materials have different melting points .. my guess is the speed of melting would depend on what the material is.

Sure; Melts away ground in dirt.... Some Wal*Mart stores still carry it. They keep it in the Automotive section next to the hand cleaners. I'm not sure if it's still a Proctor and Gamble product though.
