1998 Ford E 350 Super Duty key not turning!

I have a 1998 Ford E 350 Super Duty RV. The key will not turn on, I tried locking the door, buckling the seat belts, removing the battery and putting it back.. Any idea of what this could be? Thanks!

This happened to us with our 350 and my husband had to go to the Ford Dealer (any dealer will do) WITH THE KEY and they had to make a new one. The code wore off and the truck couldnt read it on the key anymore. This will be especially true if this was acting temperamental before and you would have a difficult time with it once in a while. They will make you a new key with the correct codes and you'll be good to go.

They said it was very common especially with heavy use of the truck.

This key with a worn off code will also cause the steering wheel to lock. My husband just got home and told me his steering wheel kept locking. It costs a lot to get the key replaced because it's a "smart key"-a few hundred dollars but it's cheaper than a mechanic fixing the wrong thing.

Have you tried moving the steering wheel ? It may be locked up and you have to move the wheel some to get to unlock ! That's if the key is not turning on at all ! Sometimes you have to shake the wheel back and forth till it unlocks the ignition !

The problem that might be causing your 1998 Ford E 350 Super Duty key not to turn is either due to having a locked up steering wheel or bad terminals. You should try moving the steering wheel for it to unlock. If it does not work, visit a Ford mechanic for professional help.
