My daughter plays shortstop for her 12u softball team. She refuses to wear a mask while playing infield. Any pros or cons on this subject

I have. Also told her she could get all her teeth knocked out. Other than pulling her from playing I'm not sure I'm going to win this battle. She is a great athlet but it only takes one bad hop. Thanks for commenting.

She says she doesn't like anything on her face. Everyone else infield wears them.

While she may have a better view without the mask, if she got hit in the face with a ball, not only could the medical bills be expensive, but her face may never look the same. She could also suffer from breathing problems, broken teeth, and if she is hit hard enough there may be far worse medical conditions that arise. Masks and helmets are there for a reason, and should definitely be worn.

She says she can't see with it on. I think it just needs to be adjusted. I would hate for her to find out the hard way.

If she has decent hand eye coordination I wouldn't worry about it. She probably just doesn't want to be embarrassed in front of her friends, which is understandable. A mask at shortstop seems like overkill. I played baseball from age 7 through high school, the only time I wore a mask was when I was catching. I did get a couple black eyes but it taught me that I better catch that ball Lol. Ultimately its your decision though. You are her mother

Thanks for your comment. She is very good and yes she has had a few twisted ankles, bruses etc. My son also plays baseball in high school and yes it will make you a better player. She is the only infielder on her travel team that doesn't wear a mask.

If the mask is not mandatory I would leave the decision to her. They limit your vision slightly. If it comes up that she has a close call or gets injured make the mask mandatory

Great idea. Hope it doesn't take losing her teeth to get it through to her.
