It's over before you know it. You can't get sick from flu shot, it's a dead virus that's injected. If you are allergic to eggs, or latex, you cannot get shot. Also, if you have a cold, or flu, they will wait until you are well. As recently as a few years ago, it wasn't administered to babies or pregnant women in first trimester, that's all changed. You can get the nasal spray( Flumist) if you are afraid of shots, if available. It Is the live virus, and the doctor can let you know if you qualify.

you DO NOT get sick from a flu shot...that is a myth
Report as
Lol. Nope, My parents and a few friends get flu shots. They actually inject you with the flu. Thats why it is called flu shots. Then you get sick. Trust me. Been doing it for the last 7 years.

It's dead virus. You aren't getting sick from that shot. You may be getting sick from hanging around the people at the clinic.
Report as
Lol. Get a flu shot. See what happens

Mystic, I have to get these flu shots yearly due to a long term illness, I have yet to get sick from a flu shot. They inject a very weak form of the flu, and if so many people you know got sick, I'm betting there's another form of the flu going around & they caught it!

Thank you neighborlady! I don't know WHY ppl think they can get sick from a flu shot...the purpose of the shot is to PREVENT the flu..not give it to you..lol.
Report as
the flu virus injected into ppl is a dead form of the flu..once you get the injection if you come across someone who has the flu it will not attack your immune system because the virus (does not matter that it is a dead virus) is already in your body..that is more or less the concept of immunizations
Report as
All of you are correct, you do not get sick from a flu shot. Pure coincidence.

The flu shot is quick of course you'll feel a pinch but that's it...it is a lot better then getting the flu that's for sure...the flu is not like a regular cold..the flu last for weeks!!

Almost totally painless, and no, you DON'T always get sick after the shot, as one person said happened to them, tho it is a possibility. It would be a very mild side effect, tho. They do formulate the flu shot on the most common flu going around, but there are different strains of viruses that cause the flu, so if you're exposed to one that the shot doesn't cover, oh yes, you will catch the flu, despite the shot! I wouldn't get one unless you're older, like me, or have a compromised immune system from another illness. Don't go in for the shot if you have a cold, fever, or anything along those lines-go when you feel totally healthy. The shots are offered at your doctor's office and at the "Minute Clinics" that are opening up in many of the larger chain drug stores. Medicare pays total cost if you're on it, don't know about Medicaid or private insurance tho. Otherwise it runs about $20, & at least one chain drug store is offering a $5 gift card if you have no insurance coverage. I too hate needles-if I can handle a flu shot, anyone can!

actually jadesmama, it is IMPOSSIBLE to get sick frm a flu shot..yes, ppl claim to get sick but I think it is either a pshycological reaction (they EXPECT to get sick) OR when they take the shot they have already been exposed to a flu or cold germ..there are many types of flu..the health dept decides each yr which strain will be the most harmful and that is the shot available to the public but it is a dead flu virius it can in NO WAY get a person sick..thanx for the info on the medicare though..I gotta let my Mom know about that :-)

The shot doesn#039;t hurt but sometimes my arm is sore for a day or two after. You are injected with dead virus so you don#039;t get sick from it either. Flu Mist is sprayed up your nose. It is made from a small amount of live virus. Obviously that doesn#039;t hurt. They won#039;t give live virus to people with compromised immune systems. My teen still gets Flu Mist because he hates the needles. The baby. I get my shots at the county health department. They ask for a donation of $15. They are free to those who can't afford them. No questions asked (other than health).

Just a tiny pinch. Not painful . it is rare to get sick but sometimes you might be already incubating a cold or flu and then it' s just a coincidence that u get sick after. if u feel u r coming down with something don't get the shot
