Does getting braces hurt?

Okay I am getting braces soon and I telling the truth I am really scared! Lots of my friends says that it doesn't hurt at all, but some say that it hurts really badly! I don't know who to believe really! So what do you think?

I had braces for nearly 2 years. I'm not gonna lie, it really sucked. Getting them on didn't hurt, but when you start to feel your teeth move, or they tighten the braces, or if they give you elastics, that hurts like crazy! Enjoy ;)

The pressure on your teeth does hurt a little, and every time you change wires, but the technology used in braces has changed since I got them, and they are much faster and painless than they used to be.

I don't remember, but my brother got braces about 6 months after I got mine, and by then, he had the newer model. If that heps. :)

But the good news is, even if your braces DO hurt, it's a great excuse to eat a lot of delicious smoothies, milkshakes, soup, etc....stuff that doesn't involve chewing. :)

I had them. I'm very pain tolerant but the braces were awful in my opinion. They were painful and annoying. But I have to say the results were worth the hardship.

It doesn't hurt (other than the awkward feeling of the braces in your mouth) until about an hour or so after you get them put on. Then it's about a week where applesauce and pudding are your favorite foods. But don't worry, it's not that bad :)

When you first get braces, your teeth are already starting to rearrange themselves. Your teeth my hurt for up to a week. It's not that bad though and it doesn't hurt immediately. I would recommend taking some Tylenol or Advil before you go to help prevent some minor discomfort. On the first one or two days your probably gonna wanna avoid solid foods because it hurts to chew a bit. If you have a good pain tolerance, it may not bother you at all. It was never very painful though and it's definitely worthwhile to get straight teeth and a perfect smile!

Listen to your friend. The others are just trying to scare you. When they put them one it doesn't hurt. You're sore afterwards, though. Nothing to be scared of.

Putting them on doesn't hurt, but when your teeth start to move, that's when it hurts! You have a wire and a lot you might have to have a bridge and bands (those hurt a lot and are annoying). You have to take them out and in 3 times a day and when you eat! But you get to get colors on them and they have a large variety at the place that I went to! It was all worth it when they took them off because they were pretty and straight!
Good luck and I hope I helped!

To short everything everyone has said: they dont hurt when u get them but its hard to eat for a couple days and when they tighten it, it may bother u a little but for me it shows me that its going to get straight faster

Tbh: it didn't really hurt. I got my braces when I was 12 almost 13 yrs old. When i had my braces, I lost like 5 pounds. I only ate soup and apple sauce for like 1 month.

It hurts to get them only but not that much but after you have then on every touch on your teeth will sting/hurt. My friend has braces and after he got them on his teeth were "sore" and a day after they were on me and him were wrestling and i tapped him on the mouth accidently and it really hurt him. Hes a teen.

It does. Braces suck. You can't really chew hard foods because your teeth are shifting around and they're sore and hurt (when I say hard food I mean stuff like pizza, and that's not even a hard food). It's hard to bite into things. Most pain medications don't really help. Sorry. Most people would say congrats on getting braces but I'm saying sorry because they don't know half of the pain.

No. The actual process of getting braces is completely painless. They just glue metal to your teeth. A few hours later, you will begin to feel some pain in your teeth because they're moving but it's nothing a little pain reliever can't fix. I've even heard of people spraying throat numbing spray on their gums. Whatever you prefer.

not in the process, you will feel pressure and your mouth will be very dry but no, it is not painful. After it hurts about 2-3 hours after and hurts for about 3 days
