What happens if you divide by zero?

Report as

Divide by zero results infinity (?)

so some scientific calculator or device say result = infinity (?)
few says zero (0)
or few display error (Err)

but in actually divide by zero results infinity (?)

Report as
yea, it has many answers, not one.
so, it is therefore "undetermined"....

hehe, i know, coz my dad told me... :)
Report as
hmm u are right.. and of course your dad is also right..
Report as
yes i know. :) he is a math teacher. ;)

The answer will always be 0

Report as
You can't divide by zero. That's multiplication where it always equals zero. Look it up.

Nothing....It can't be done. If you are playing the Sims, though, and you try it, your sim breaks out into flames :/ Found that out the hard way....

Anything divided by zero equals zero. Anything multiplied by zero equals zero. If you have a number with a zero as the exponent, your answer will always be one.

On my scientific calculator, anything divided by 0=Error, so I guess you can't do it.

Report as

In mathematics, it is actually undetermined.

Report as
Wow some people say answer is zero. Can you believe it :-P
Report as
hehe... :p
some misunderstandings are there b/w "undetermined" and "not defined"....
u see, "not defined" is determined that it is "not defined" , but "undetermined" is simply not determined..... got it? :p
Report as
No :-l
Report as
read it again and again... :p
Report as
Still no :-l
Report as
so, he decided that you'd not go. likewise, it is decided (determined), that the thing is "not defined".
now you got it?
Report as

and undetermined is the case when we divide zero by zero, because it has many answers :
first, dividing any number by itself gives 1, so 1 is one answer.
second, when we divide any number by zero, it is infinity.
third, if zero is in numerator, it is 0.
therefore, the case 0/0 is undetermined.
Report as
i hope, now you get it? right? :)
Report as
aaah... ohkay genius :P
Report as
hehe, ahh now you got it.... :P
and thats my style :P "ohkay" :P

grab 2 oranges. cut them in half you have sliced each orange only once effectively dividing the 2 oranges by 2 which equals 1. Therefore you have created four quarters of one whole orange (4 slices)
by this undeniable logic if you divide 2 oranges by slicing them 0 times you will be left with. 2 oranges.

You get 0. No matter what number you divide or multiply by 0 it ALWAYS equals 0
