For females only...

This is weird but when did you start using tampons after you first got your period? How many months did it take for you to start using them...

Report as

For the first 6 months - year your period will be shifty, Maybe a little heavier one time then the next. Or last a little longer than the last. I used a pad for the first 6 months Until I got used to it, then i started using tampons. Just know that every time you use them there is a risk of infection and sometimes some very serious medical issues. But they're not gonna bite you. [meaning theyre not as bad as some people make them sound] If you use tampons be sure to change it every 4-8 hours [8 at the very MAXIMUM time] And to use the low to mid absorbent. Larger tampons raise the risk of infections. When you sleep at night use a pad. tampons in can be quite uncomfortable but also dangerous if you over-sleep.
i hope this helped with any questions you mightve had!

Why would you believe they are dangerous? If you don't mind saying. I'm a grandma now and I've heard several girls express fear about using tampons. Where does that fear come from?

There's a disease call TSS in rare but fatal.

Yah, and if you wear them for too long and forget about it, then it could cause cancer.

They really don't cause cancer. They are made of cotton and a tiny bit of nylon (in the string). That the same stuff jeans are made out of. As for TSS, that is caused by bacteria. Back in the old days, when I was much younger, a company made a product that made super absorbent tampons from artificial sponge like ingredients with cotton. They were called Rely. They worked really, really well. Lots of women used them. That's when TSS popped up. The sponge material was a tremendous growth medium for this bacteria and women got sick and died from Toxic Shock. It took a while for anybody to link the illness and death to the Rely tampons. They were removed from the market and warnings were placed on ALL tampons and TSS virtually went away. If you change your tampon every 4 hours or so, match your tampon to your flow, you shouldn't have problems.

Hope that wasn't too much info. ;)

I started using them the first month. I swam every day and if you don't use a tampon, you don't go in the pool with your period.

I started my first period a year ago, and i still haven't used tampons yet. I think it just depends on the person. Hope this helps!

To be honest with you, I would use them about the third month because on the third month you have more experience with these changes. When you first get it, pads would be more appropriate..

I started about a year after I had my period. They never seemed comfortable. But I think you can use them whenever you want to try them. They have slim ones for teens. Good luck!

I never could use them. I had friends and they never used anything else. And others yet that feel somewhere in between. It all depends on what you are comfortable with and what your body will allow.

At the age when I got my period, I had never put anything inside me because I thought it would hurt because it felt extremely sensitive, but about a year ir two later is when I started. They're lifesavers to me lol
