Why are there so many bad people in this world?

I'm just wondering if there is a reason for all the death and evil.

Report as

Because society is just scr3w3d up . God knows the reason behind everything, you just have to pray and have faith.

There really arent. The news just shows only the bad things that happen in the world. People have both bad and good in them, and some decide to act with the bad.

I guess you never met... This answer is quite offensive to people like me who went thru hell as a child. A bad choice is polyester instead of cotton. Ped o philes or people who beat kids are EVIL, pure and simple.
Report as
no, there really are bad people. For instance, a person who murders someone once made a bad choice. But someone who continuously makes bad choices, for instance, a serial killer, is most definitely a bad person. They have made the choice to be a bad person.
Report as
you just explained it yourself: pedo's and killers aren't good people they're just people who made bad desicions. Why do you consider them evil? because of their actions
Report as
that was for notbob
Report as
as for preppyboy i am truly ashamed. I thought you to be one of the brightest people on here. Serial killers are often not doing wrong in their eyes. Some have sschizophrenia. Others are just insane. As for the pedo's i once spoke to an officer of the law who deals with such people. They have a problem. It's like an addiction like drugs and alcohol. They need help and therepy. But they cannot simply change. It isn't easy. They're not bad. They have done wrong they made the wrong choices they are living bad lifestyles, doing bad things. They're not good but they are not bad.
Report as
Yes. People who make bad choices. Jesus loves us all and will forgive you if you are trullly sorry.
Report as
wickedwriter, if you are not good, then you must be bad. As our pope francis said in his first homily, and I'm paraphrasing here, if you do not serve the lord, you serve the devil. Whether someone is doing wrong according to their own ideas and opinions, does not change whether they are doing wrong in the absolute truth of morality. The fact is, there have been truly evil people in this world. Personalities like Hitler, Stalin, and a host of others. The reality is, that the people I have talked to who are schizophrenic, or have other such mental disorders, are still the same wonderful people when being affected adversely by their condition. Whereas those others, are not. they are truly afflicted with an evil, and have become servants of it. Like it or not, You are the sum of your choices. If your choices are bad, and continue to be bad. That makes you bad. Sad truth, but a truth nonetheless.
Report as
While I retain the same brightness as previously, I have a very different philosophy about the world than you do. I base my philosophy in this case, from the words of our magisterium. The question is, what do you base yours from?
Report as
and my response: thought, facts, understanding. Look do you truly believe that people like hitler and stalin were in their right minds? i can't say that i believe that. Your action are evil, does not make you evil. The devil brings out the evil in us all. We do good, we do bad. That's life. None of us are bad or godd. There is no set desicion .
Report as
There is, the decision is ours. While we are meant to be inherently good. As it says in genesis, God saw that his creations were good. Our good nature has been tainted by the effects of sin. Giving us the ability to choose between the good and the evil. When we choose the evil more than we choose the good, that makes us bad. While you may not believe Hitler and Stalin were in their right minds, I do, because I see the logical and intelligent execution of what they did. They very carefully planned out every action they took. Human beings, are the sum of their choices, we show our true selves through our works (shew me thy faith without works, and I will shew thee my faith through my works)-James-Chapter 2-Douay Rheims. We show what we truly believe, what ideals we truly have, through the actions we take in this world. We are the sum of our actions, the choices we make, make us who we are. If your choices are bad on a continuous basis, it will rot you to the core of your being, and while no bad person is beyond saving, it does not change the fact that at this point, they are bad. Satan could very well be forgiven by God were he to have true contrition for his actions, he was originally good, It does not change that he is now evil, and the prince of darkness and lies.
Report as
look you have a lot to say. You know a lot. I respect you for all the time you must spend learning all this but seriously? This is about more than books. There is no set "good" and "evil" something can be good to one person and evil to another. God is always open for forgivness. He never labels us, only our actions. He will always love us no matter what we do. Because even if we do something wrong, it's our actions he hates, not us
Report as
I understand that part about the forgiveness, and God's love, I have no dispute with that. However, there is an absolute moral law that exists, as a fellow Catholic, you should understand this. It doesn't matter what someone "feels" is good for them, if it is contrary to moral law. Abortion, is always wrong, it doesn't matter whether someone says it's ok, it doesn't matter what method you use to abort, it doesn't matter if you think it's right, it's murder, and it is always wrong. There is an absolute, set, good and evil. End of story, the same rules that apply to abortion, apply to many other things. If you want the absolute moral law of the world. with no need for much interpretation, then go to the Ten commandments. To break those commandments, is wrong, always, every time. Mortal Sin, separation from God, need for confession, bad, evil, wrong. What you said in your last four sentences, is the Absolute Truth of God's mercy, but what I am saying, is the Absolute Truth of good and evil. They exist, and they both have completely set characteristics. As Thomas Aquinas said, "an evil action can never be justified by reference to good intention". Clearly indicating that there is an absolute definitive good and evil. If you want more info on this, I suggest consulting your CCC, as it contains a very good explanation of these things in paragraph 1750-1761, here is a link to it.

we can chase eachother around non stop because you're not listening to me. yes abortion is wrong, bad. Yes there are moral laws, a set good and bad but for the last time ITS THE ACTION THATS BAD NOT THE PERSON. God with love and forgive you as i said. He doesn't label you on your actions. why should i? why should you? you have no right. Referenceing the bible doesn't make you anymore correct because you rufuse to take your head out of a book and listen to me.
Report as
I have listened to you, but you are wrong according to basic philosophical and moral law. A person who will almost always choose the bad over the good, is a bad person. A person who persists in evil actions is a bad person. There are absolutely evil people in this world. Rotten to the core, servants of the devil. The actions we take, make us who we are, if our actions are bad, they make us bad. If one embraces evil, they become that evil. Just as Satan did. This is reality, I understand the wish to run away from this truth, it is indeed a frightening one, but even God himself says he will separate the goats from the sheep, and he will say to the goats, "depart from me you WICKED ones". God absolutely labels us based upon our actions, for they show him who we are. Like it or not, people go to Hell, those that do evil, receive it for eternity, because they chose it., they chose to be evil. I have listened to you, but you are incorrect not only according to me, but to the very faith which you profess to follow. What you are saying does not have basis in reality, it is in fact a rather myopic representation of things. There are truly evil, rotten to the core people in this world, who will never change their ways, because they have chosen the darkness over the light, this makes them bad. Their choices, make them bad people. A persistence in evil action, makes one evil. This is the truth of the matter. It isn't a pleasant truth, but it is an absolute truth nonetheless.
Report as
im gonna stop chasing you around now. You can reply to this with another long paragraph but i wont reply. All im saying is: if someone is truly sorry for what they have done and have learned the wrong in their ways, that's not evil. I also will never label someone as bad. No matter wht they do. I try to see everyone as an image of God. The world is a lot more of a happier place if people like you stop looking at the evil around us and try to see the good. Which i try to see the good in everyone. Because we are all made in God's image therefore we all have some good in us.
Report as
We finally understand each other I think. Certainly, a repentant heart is always forgiven, and everyone has some good in them, I will not deny you that absolute truth, however, also try and realize that there are those who have an unrepentant heart, and no desire to change their ways. Those are the bad people in the world. Without that which is bitter, the sweet isn't quite so sweet. I look at the evil in the world, which manifests itself in a grandiose way, in order to see that which is good in a greater light.

Well ... that's actually the second question ... the first question is: "ARE there bad people in the world?"

I mean, if someone is a genocidal maniac (Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, etc) - are they "bad people", or are they just making "bad choices"?

And if there are "bad people" ... what if it's because of genetics? Does that mean they really aren't bad, since they are only acting as designed?

If god is all knowing and also gave man free will, then it must have been obvious to him/her that people like Hitler Etc... would exist. And since god created man in his own image, it would stand to reason it is gods fault both evil and good exist.
Report as
Satan exists. As well as free will. People make there own choice. Yes God knows. He also puts in front of each of them every reason to change their ways. They chose not to.

Good answer Walt! Every action we do is all from how our brains are genetically designed. Which is also something we can not control. So even if you do consider them a bad person, you can't really say it's their fault.. Right?

Concept of Yin and Yang, Dark and Light. The Yin is the darkness, a representation of evil, and the Yang is the light, a representation of goodness. However, even in the field of light, there is a dot of darkness, and even in the field of darkness, there is a glimmer of light. Within this material world, there exists a sort of balance between the Yin and the Yang, the Dark and the Light, the Good and the Evil. Whatever you wish to call it, it remains a universal truth. In this material world, due to the free will of mankind, there will always be some amount of evil that will oppose the good, and some amount of good that will oppose the evil. Creating a seemingly fragile balance, where both sides fight to make headway into the other.

Because people are weak. James 1:14-15 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.
Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.

We get original sin from Adam and eve. The demon tempts us to do bad things. We have to have faith (believing without seeing) in God. And trust him.
Report as
People do bad things because they can, simple. It doesn't involve religion.
Report as
They can because God gives them that choice. To do bad or to do evil.
Report as
They have their own choice, they aren't mind controlled by anything.
Report as
Exactly. God made us and gives us a choice: good or bad. Aka Him or the devil. Ppl who do bad things obviously CHOOSE to do bad. And like I said God GIVE us that choice to do what we want. He doesn't "mind control" us or anything like that. But that is just my religion and what I believe in. Believe what u want. :)
Report as
@Maddy: But what if someone has some kind of mental issue that caused him to start killing people like a maniac? It is obviously that he made a bad choice, but did he CHOOSE to do it? Or was he controlled by the mental issue that he has? And if he chose to kill people, then why do you think he did it? Because the devil tempted him? But what's to tempt about killing people when all that does is put you to jail? Or did God took away his free will by giving him a mental issue? You see? You just can't blame all the people who make bad choices. It is OBVIOUSLY your religion does not know all.

You would be well served to avoid speaking about the "theory" of evolution. Do not confuse "faith" with science. This subject does nothing more than to paint your religions

The apostle Paul warned that the last days would bring a marked increase in false teaching. "The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons" (1 Timothy 4:1). The last days are described as "perilous times" because of the increasingly evil character of man and people who actively "resist the truth" (2 Timothy 3:1-9; see also 2 Thessalonians 2:3).

By who's definition of bad? That implies good. If man is a product of evolution and all is morally relevant, there is no such thing as absolute 'bad' or 'good.'
From the standard of perfection as expressed by the Christian worldview, everyone is 'bad'. It is human nature; for from the heart come all evil thoughts, evil deeds, evil attitudes. A 2-year old raised in a loving home who has never watched TV will reveal his self-centeredness.

Some hide it better than others. Yes, I agree the problem is sin, a spiritual disease every human is terminally ill with. Wait, there is one solution for the sin problem--the Person of Jesus Christ paid for sin's penalty by His death and resurrection; and He can change the heart. We can be healed if we believe God's diagnosis and follow His treatment--committment to Christ.

People are not bad- they can be misguided. Until we know the pain of others we will not empathize. Some have brain damage and undesirable mutations that inhibit compassion but they are just genetic mistakes and products of bad parenting. The things people do that are bad are what we should target because people are just animals with too much power.

Well, the truthful answer can come from the most truthful book in the world. The BIBLE!
We are created in God's image and have the potential of being very loving and kind people. But we have the choice to do right or wrong. Following bible principles will help us be better people. Not following bible principles-such as love your neighbor as yourself-results in great harm to others.
Also, the bible says Satan is misleading and influencing people on earth to do wrong. (Revelation 12:9) ( 1 John 5:19) So it's important to follow the bible's counsel as a protection.
We experience death because of sin.(Romans 5:12 )"That is why just as through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned"
However God has promised to do away with death would you like to know more.
