If someone leaves a motor cycle at my house and I can't get a hold of them can I sell it?

My ex left, don't know where he is. He owes me $$. If I legally try to contact him via registered mail and he does not respond can I keep the bike?

If it's been there for a while , then you can file a lien on it . They will send him a registered letter informing him of this . If he doesn't respond in a certain amount of time ( usually 60 days ) , then you will get ownership and can legally sell it !

Check your state laws on "abandoned property" and "abandoned vehicles".

Depends on the state law. Put it on local news and see if he claims it. If he doesn't come in 24 hours, it's yours. The right thing to do would be to call him and ask if he still wants it.

Oh believe me you can sell it or give it back to them for storage fees.

No because its not yours to sell. And what would you tell the buyer when they ask you for the title.

after so long yes all you have to do is file for "abandoned title" they will send him 3 certified letters (1 per 30 days)if he gives no response then they will send you the title (after you pay tt&l of course) in which then you can sell it. but do keep in mind that selling a vehicle w/o a title is actually illegal so if you sell it before you get the title then he can take you to court and sue you for the value of the bike... now on the other hand if he does come to relieve you of the bike and you have started the process with the tax office to gain ownership you can have the police keep him from removing it from your property w/o payment, so know the date that it was left there and keep tabs on how much he owes you... for instance if you are keeping it in the yard $10.00/day, if it is in your driveway taking up space $25.00/day, or if you have it nice and cozy tucked in your garage $50.00/day!!! prices is your choice but a court will only appoint you practical and will not permit insanity like $100.00/day so be mindful on your daily prices and do everything by the book and legal or it could be you with the short end of the stick!!! hope my post is helpful B.
