1-God's voice in your heart sounds like a flow of spontaneous thoughts. Small still voice. 2-Become still so you can sense God's flow of thoughts & emotions within. psalm 46.10 3-As you pray, fix the eyes of your heart upon Jesus, seeing in the spirit the dreams and visions of God. acts 2.1-4,17 4-Journaling (I need to do this again), the writing out of your prayers & God's answers. Brings freedom in hearing God's voice this way.
Knowing God thru the bible is a vital foundation to hearing His voice. The word of God is alive & active, sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul & spirit, joints & marrow, it judges the thoughts & attitudes of the heart. heb 4.12.
When fear starts to come on me, I'll bring out all my scriptures on "fear", that's God speaking to me.
When you give your life to The Lord He fills you with His holy spirit. You have a connection and you just "know" It is neat! Now if He gives you a message to to give to someone then it is like an overwhelming feeling that you can not shake until the message has been given! :0)

It's not easy to always "know" and sometimes people can be wrong. I'm skeptical in nature so when I think God is telling me something, I ask Him confirm it. He always does if it's Him. There's been times I think God is telling me something but found out later, maybe I was wrong. I'ts okay. We can't always beat ourselves up. But, I am normally a skeptic when it comes to people just saying, "God told me." lol Although, scripture does say, "My sheep know my voice." We have to choose to listen. :)
You 'hear' with your heart. God does do this some. Well God 'speaks' to us regularly, but doesnt often tell us to do specufic things unless they are significant or purposeful and always in line with His own guidelines for us. Too often people use God as an excuse to do things they want to do and use Gods name in an attempt to rationalize or exuse behavior. If someone does something unGodly and claim God 'told them to do it' theyre lying. If it doesnt glorify God its a lie.
I've actually had a hard time recently wondering when God's "talked" to me before, but I know that the way He does that is through the Holy Spirit. It's not something you usually hear with your ears; you hear it with your heart. God may tell you to pray or minister to a certain person through the Holy Spirit.
Sometimes people can hear God when they are very close with him and it may not actually be him talking and it could be imagination, but you just have to trust that its God, and if it isn't, then I guess it was just a mistake
God speaks to us through His Word. God speaks through impressions, events, and thoughts. God helps us to discern right from wrong through our consciences (1 Timothy 1:5; 1 Peter 3:16). God is in the process of conforming our minds to think His thoughts (Romans 12:2).
