Are we alone in the universe?

are we really? when will we make contact with another race that can in someway improve our way of life or help us and save us from our own destruction?

I think of it like this, it would be a terrible waste of space if we were the only ones using it, now isn't it? It would be pretty arrogant also of us to feel we were the only ones out here.

That IS what they say... I would've virtually duplicated what you said, so I skipped it. Obviously, I think it's absolutely awesome answer, HA!! 8)

That's a quote from contact with jodi foster, right?

Possibly, she made a movie on the subject. But what I've posted here is all my personal opinion.

brethon1 -- I've never seen the Jodi Foster movie, but since I was going to say the exact same thing, it's probably a fairly common thought on the subject... :)

NO we are not alone. Some scientists/researches say within the next 10 years, we will be able to contact other life. But I think itll take longer than that.

It might be a while before we find other life in the universe because we don't have a fast means of transportation in the universe, but I think personally there's no way that none of the other millions of planets was created with the capability of supporting life.

I don't think we are alone, no. Think of the fact that we are only on one small planet, in one solar system, when there are millions, billions, trillions, infinite numbers of solar systems in different galaxies. I think there must be another planet somewhere that supports life. However, I do not think that they are going to invade us any time soon, if at all. Even if we manage to make contact, which is doubtful, we may not be able to communicate due to language barriers.

It seems highly unlikely that a universe as vast and ever-expanding as this one would only produce intelligent life on one planet. However, we should not assume that other life forms would necessarily by more technologically advanced or have the means and/or desire to improve our lives. Plus, even if they did, we would be frightened and feel threatened by them, so we would either be defeated by them or we would destroy them and still end up on the same path of destruction. I had originally thought you were asking an existential question before I read the rest of your comments. IMNSHO, each human consciousness is completely and utterly alone in the universe. And the more self-actualized you become, the more alone you become. Read some Sartre if you are interested in this dilemma.

Lets say 1% of the universe has life and in that one percent is 100,000,000 stars (100million)

1%=1,000,000 (1million)

And each star has 8 planets orbiting (same as ours)

80mil planets and 1/8 have life that equals 10million

If I did my math right according to this it's a good chance were not alone

Do you really think that humans are the only sentient beings in the universe?

we belong to milkyway galaxy..there are billions of galaxies out there in space about which we humans don't have much of information till date...so i'd say there must be some form of life dwelling in other galaxies...
