No.....we don't believe in heaven, I didn't ask to be baptized, that was my parents idea. I figured out that heaven was mythical at a young age though.

Why do you answer religious questions if you are an atheist?

It's an open forum...plus this question was for everyone.

I only answer if the question seems like its more open for everyone...I won't butt in if its not...out of respect for the believer.

@Spineysaurus, read the Question; it specifically asks about athiests!
@helix, same here!:-).

Well, "not everyone that says Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven." Say someone commits an abomination before the Lord and don't repent. Do you think that they will enter heaven? What does the Word say about it?

LoL, Atheists don't say,"Lord, Lord".
Report as
@ravenevan it was written a long time ago, that's how they talked. Just like the Bible says people will pray for the rocks to fall on them at the end of times. They aren't going to pray to rocks, they're going to yell at the rocks to fall on them. It's just how they talked. What my interpetation of the "Lord, Lord" is that an atheist would be asking for forgiveness, but would not.

would not get forgiven*

Most protestant religions believe that, because by default, according to them, they are "saved", so no matter what they do, they will go to heaven. However, according to the Catholic Church, if you are baptized, and have at one time believed, and turn atheist out of obstinacy, then you have chosen against God, and therefore by your own choice cannot share in his kingdom.

Yeah, I don't think it works that way either, Deb. Atheists don't believe in heaven, so it doesn't factor in. What a ridiculous question.

No that's not how it works :)

Baptism isn't a free ticket. Baptism is a symbol of accepting Christ's sacrifice. Symbolically, you are washing away the sins of your past life, to be born again as a follower of Christ. The real significance of that is the personal commitment you make. If you don't believe, then it doesn't mean anything. So being Athiest and getting baptized simply means that one day someone said some nice words while they got your head wet... and that's all it would ever mean.

I don't think you know what an atheist is... Atheists believe there is no God, so heaven would not be a concern to them.

My thoughts are that you don't know what an atheist is. You can't TURN atheist. And you can't become one either. All an atheist is is a word that means a person who lacks the belief in a higher power or a deity. Honestly, I don't even know why I even have to call myself an atheist. I mean, I don't think they have a single name for a person who doesn't believe in Allah (although they do have Christians and those who believe in the Greek gods). I don't see why we need a name for someone who doesn't believe in any god. So all in all, I don't think you know what an atheist means. I think it's people like you, no offense, that make atheism a religion, along with all of the militant atheists.

No, if you reject the Holy Spirit you are doomed. An atheist doesn't believe whether baptized or not. Unless they accept the Holy Spirit telling them to believe, they are doomed. BUT, "he who is first is last and he who is last is first" it ain't over til it's over, and that's when Christ comes. There's always a chance to be saved until then.

I don't think that's how atheism works. I thought you had to be "saved" to go to heaven and baptism was just a conformation of faith? So if a true atheist was baptised, wouldn't it just be a bath?

If you met anyone who said that, they must be confused. Once you become an atheist, you no longer accept God. If they think they have a "back up plan" by being baptized, they are wrong.

An atheist with a "back-up" plan isn't an atheist.

I agree. That is why I called them confused.

Its not the being baptized that saves you it just represents your rebirth into christianity you have to open your heart and let god in thats what saves you so if you turn aethiest then no because your closing your heart to god

As an atheist baptized as a baby by my parents, it is my opinion that I will not be going to heaven. But then I will not be going to hell either since neither exists.

No, they abandoned or should have dismissed that line of thinking when they became atheistic. It is a contradiction to be an atheistic and still believe in heaven. If they do they are confused.

2nd Peter 2......................

20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.

Now it is crystal clear that you don't know what an atheist is. If anyone doesn't believe in any god(s) and doesn't believe in any religion then the idea of heaven doesn't matter because atheists don't believe in it.

---and NOT REPENT?If you turn athiest after you were "baptised"? Then most likely you were not "saved". In the first. Baptism does not give passage to heaven. Its your heart belief in Jesus. Many folks think it is the 'act'. But it is the belief of the heart( not mental knowledge).
Now if you Are truely Saved and you
publicly denounce that faith.....(i. E.
from Christianity to Muslim) Thats ,blaphemy.....! And its up to Jesus. He is the Judge!
Hell was originally made for the devil and his angels!! It was not made for mankind untl the Fall. God does not
want any man to perish, but to believe unto everlasting life!-with Him!

Well, if they turn atheist then they won't believe in a heaven anymore, so they therefore will not believe they will go to heaven.

I'm a Christian and Baptized, I don't believe that. You can have no sin when you die or when the Lord comes back to the earth for his children, if you want to go to Heaven.
