A christian based religion which formed during the Reformation period in Germany. It's main advocate (there were many) was a former catholic monk called Martin Luther who opposed popery and other church practices like the selling of indulgences and church high life. He "protested" and put his life on the line (he could of been burned as a heretic)

Martin Luther nailed a list of complaints on the Pope's front door & the Protestant movement began. It then divided into many: Baptists, Methodist, Church of Christ , & many others too numerous to name.

It's a branch of Christianity, basically.

The Protestants were people who protested certain practices and positions of the Roman Catholic Church. It is not a religion, nor a denomination, but a description of the people who disfellowshipped from the Catholic Church and pursued Christianity under a slightly different set of beliefs, positions and practices. It includes many denominations, but does not describe Eastern Orthodox or other, older divisions (such as Ebionite, Maronite or Coptics). The Protestant movement dates from Martin Luther, and the 15th century. it is primarily a European phenomenon.

We've got Protestant Churches EVERYWHERE in America! Methodist, Lutheran, Baptist, etc. They're everywhere....
Report as
Yep, cuz we are descended from European colonists. I didn't mean to say it was EXCLUSIVELY European...

Is that a bird of paradise? I'm going to miss your face.
Report as
Yeah. One of my favorite flowers and too many of the same pic were turning up with that other one so i decided to change. At least one person left a chat message meant for someone else. I hope the Bird-of-Paradise is unique enough.

Wrong, Protestant is a branch, just like Lutheran and Catholicism and Baptist and others

Well being Baptist- we do NOT believe as Catholics!
They pray to-thru Mary.
We pray in Jesus' name , only!
We believe in emersion baptism and do Not baptize babies!
We dress casual
and do not do mass!
We have communion
but do not believe that it BECOMES THE BODY OF CHRIST(how can it- its a cracker)
We do not believe in pergatory!
We believe what the Bible says:
Man is appointed once to die and then the judgement!
We do not believe in predestinstion except that we are PREDESTINED
To be like CHRIST !
Therefore we are not associated as a part of the Catholic church.
Lutherans , Episcapalians, and Presbyterians i think are more closely related!!
But we do believe in the same God and that Jesus is His Son!

Technically, the word "western" should be in that statement to be fastidious. Eastern churches aren't Protestant and aren't catholic either.
