Boil water
add vicks vapor rub about a teaspoon
mix the water and vapor rub
pour it into a container with a lid.. Let stem accumulate... Be close to the lid.. Not too close, close your eyes( or else vicks will cause an uncomfortable feeling in your eyes)...
Now inhale the steam with deep breaths

guaranteed to feel amazing and help you out....

I use DoTerra Essential Oils for colds. If you can, take On Guard in a couple drops of water and then use breathe. If you want more info on them, here is the website:

Afrin, or a generic version, twice a day for 3 days, maximum 6 doses over 3 days. Also use a saline squirt, 3 or 4 times a day. By the end of the third day you'll have been getting good relief from the symptoms, and the cold will have cycled down and on its way out.

Neti pot rinses followed by an over-the-counter nose spray. Also take Sudafed or an over-the-counter nasal decongestant for AM or PM use, depending on the time of day. Do not take any long-acting medications. Just a medication that last 4 to 6 hours at the most so that you can take the appropriate AM or PM medication.

I agree that Neti pot rinses are really helpful. Saline nasal sprays such as Hydrasense are easier to use. I would not recommend medicated sprays or Sudafed because these can cause rebound congestion when you stop using them.

Thank you - I am not a doctor so definitely go with what the doctor says. I was only thinking of temporary use, in case of a cold - not someone with a chronic stuffy nose.

I've found that if you put minty toothpaste above your top lip and only breathe through your nose helps.

I like many of those suggestions, especially those using Vick's or other aromatic oils to clear the sinuses - preferably with steam from a bowl of hot water. The best way to clear and cleanse the nasal stuffiness is to use Saline Soliton in a nasal spray bottle. This is isotonic, so it doesn't sting or damage the delicate tissues. Saline spray mixes easily with both wet and dry coryza (snot) and enables this to be cleared by blowing the rinse into tissues. Then - using a similar nasal spray bottle, I rinse both nostrils vigorously with Optrex. This is also isotonic (doesn't sting) and Optrex is gently astringent - which means it tightens the nasal passage tissue. That regime is very effective, but in hay fever season a few puffs of Flixonase will help - or Sudafed tablets.

To get rid of this annoyance permanently, you have to find out what foods you are eating constantly that are causing the allergic responses. In my case dairy products (ice-cream%$#&) and wheat-based foods. A change in diet will often eliminate the stuffiness forever. Talk to a Homeopath or Herbalist about supporting remedies to speed your recovery.

Flixonase is just one tradename for Fluticasone propionate that is efective. Any OTC nasal spray for allergy or hay fever symptoms will do - but this is seasonal support. Long term you need to get on top of your dietary triggers....

Sorry - that should have been Saline SOLUTION - your Pharmacist has this - ideally as a spray bottle to get high into your nose. They also have that Optex I was talking about - and the OTC brandnamed products...

This is simple and I thought I looked stupid, but this is what you need...
Warm wet paper towel or toilet paper and minty toothpaste.
Apply a small amount of toothpaste on the towel and rub it gently. Place the towel with the toothpaste on it right under your nose and above your upper lip. Lay down like this and you'll be able to breathe easily throughout the night. Just keep it on. If you turn and toss, get duct tape!! (Just Kidding) Just hold it up to your nose and do that every night until your stuffy nose is gone. I tried it out, it worked!!
