The Missouri Compromise was an accord passed in 1820 between the pro-slavery and anti-slavery. It prohibited the slavery in the former Louisiana terrain excluding those within the boundaries of the projected state of Missouri.

the Missouri compromise of 1820 is when it prohibited slavery in the former Louisiana territory north of the parallel 36 (degree) 30' north except within the boundaries of the proposed state of Missouri To balance the number of "slave states" and "free states," the northern region of what was then Massachusetts was admitted into the United States as a free state to become Maine Prior to the agreement, the house of representatives had refused to accept this compromise, and a conference committee was appointed

Its was a compromise when slavery was still going on and Missouri wanted to be a slave state ..but the new York congressman at that time was unhappy with the new state(Missouri) being a slave state so they were like let us have slaves and maine can be a free state

The Missouri compromise of 1820 was all about Missouri wanting to be a slave state however free states did not like the idea because there was an even amount of slave and free states and adding another slave state could effect the free states so the free states came up with a plan Missouri could be a free state but all children and chasten born into slavery were automatically free and Missouri was not aloud to import slave but Missouri didn't like that they thought it was unfair so the came up with a compromise that stated that they had all the rights of the other slave states and Maine which was developing at the same time would be a free state along with all state north of Missouri's boarder which would keep everything balanced at the time congress approved and everyone got what they wanted
