Hi, dear. I'm so very sorry for this horrible thing you've had to deal with all these years. God bless you. But, yes, you can. Nothing is impossible if you really want to do it and have the right help. But you'll need some major professional help and it is certainly going to take a while to whip this. However, you just asking is a major step and wanting to stop is THE major step.
It is possible to quit an addiction to drugs. However, you need to go to a rehab so as to be offered help which will make you to quit the addiction fast. Being in addiction for all those years is not a joke and needs assistance as soon as possible.
Some drugs are more addictive than others. It also depends on your personality. Are you strong willed, or not? Are you a follower, or a leader? Have you had a life altering event, that has made you motivated?
Yes. It isn't easy though. You have to make a real decision that you want to quit knowing full well all of the obstacles you face. Its SO easy to give up and return to using... for ANY stupid excuse (believe me, I know).
First you have withdrawals, and they can be pretty severe depending on the drug(s) you used and your method of taking them. They will tell you withdrawals last up to a week. Not true... they can go on for a month or more, especially if you have been say... injecting heroin. The withdrawals can be lessened with diazepines (like Valium - see a doctor about that). Then there is the depression. This isn't a depression like where you just had a bad day.... it's a real change in your brain chemistry you have to tough out (and it can take years for your brain to recover (one doctor told me - a month of recovery for every year of drug use) or treat with antidepressants and therapy. The desire for drugs will likely be there for the rest of your life so the resistance to temptation is something you will always have to fight. It does get easier though.
Know that there are people who care and want to help, and seek them out for support.
Yes , it will take determination , mad amounts of you want to , gallons of faith , and a ton of never give up , and If you slip , make sure it's a slip , not a fall , you can do it , you just have to want it
