(parents) Would you say 18 is the best age to get a face piercing?

So Ive wanted to get a face piercing for a very long time.. Preferrably a small nose one or snake bites. My dad was all for it, he didn't really care. Though when I went to my mom's house for the weekend I had to make sure she was okay with it too. Knowing she was a wild rebel back in the old days, I thought she would be okay with it too. When I asked her confidently, she said WHEN IM 18. I was completely caught off gaurd. Isn't 18 a little too old? I mean how could she be fine with getting a bunch of holes in my ears pierced but not a tiny nose ring?? Is 18 actually a reasonable age??

18 is the age when you can legally make your own decisions, by law you are considered an adult, and maybe your mother wants you to think a little bit about it because there may have been some things she did in the good old days when she was wild that she regrets and she would like you to learn from her mistakes...)

i dont think so but eh, until your 18 you live by their rules. 18 is basically freedom age. thats why they are saying that.

I think your mother is hoping you will grow out of this. Face piercings are not very attractive and she knows this.
However.... If you have your fathers permission then you are allowed to get your face pierced. My daughter got her eyebrow pierced and her tongue pierced with my permission and not her mothers at the age of 16.(we are long divorced) My rationale for allowing her to have these piercings was not to upset her mother... it was because I knew that if I didnt allow her to do this she would have taken it upon herself to do this, quite possibly with the help of a friend. I didnt want her to get an infection. I was just trying to think ahead. I assumed if she didnt like it in the future, she could take them out.

Good luck

I don't see the sense in piercings. So, in my opinion, not really any age.

Well legally at 18 you can make your own choices. Your mom just wants what's best.

It may seem a little old but when you're 18 you might not want it anymore. If I had to choose get a small nose piercing, NOT snake bites. I honestly wouldn't get any because when you're 40-80, having a face piercing is really unatractive. I would wait until you're 18, and if you're 100% sure you want one then, then get one. :)

You are so lucky that your mom loves you enough to say "not right now. I'm guessing your mom just wants what is best for you. And, because she was a bit wilder as a teen/young adult, she is able to see both sides of this issue. She understands why you would want to get piercings, and she also understands why it wouldn't be a good idea. So, she is giving you time to really think about your desire for facial jewelry. I would honestly make a list of pros and cons in regards to getting both a small nose ring and snake bites. Do some research on the subject. Show your mom that you're not just acting on a whim, but that you truly know all that is involved, social and economical ramifications, and the like. Basically, an informed, educated decision.

In all honesty, I would not get either. As a manager for a retail establishment, I know of many employers who will not hire anyone with facial jewelry or other forms of body modifications (ie. tattoos, green hair, mohawks...) You and your friends may think getting piercings and the like is a way to show off your individuality/uniqueness, and is just plain cool. But, most of mainstream America looks at as a form of rebellion-to put it nicely. They do not see the person under the piercings or tattoos, but instead see someone who is lazy, rebellious, untrustworthy, disrespectful, promiscuous, drinking and drugging, gang affiliated, against family values and criminal. Rightly or wrongly, this is how much of America views young people who have body modifications(I'm not talking about a small, discreet, hidden tattoo, but ones that are very noticeable).

So, before you do anything, be sure. Be 100% positive that you will want this when you are 85. Once it is done, it can't be undone. True, you may be able to let the piercings grow back together, but not always. I had my ears pierced 35 years ago, have not worn earrings for over a decade, but Just last week I was able to put in a pair with no problem whatsoever. Just something else to think about.

Best of wishes in whatever you decide.

I swear if one teenager thought strapping a can of green beans to your head was cool, you'd all do it. Think for yourself and stop following the rest of the sheep.

Oh, for goodness sake. I see people every day with all kinds of piercing. Now if you really want to scare people, get a tear drop tattooed under your eye.

You cant get piercing ot tat until you are 18 without parental permission. When you are 18 its totally your choice and out of their hands. Pierced ears are a social norm, pierced nose not so much.
