What do you need to do to become an electrical engineer?

What degree, what personality skills, what about the salary?

You need to have a fetish for getting paid for 40 hours a week but working 80+. You need to love sitting down all day at a computer while you get fat. You need to become a very bland and dull person who doesn't have a personality. You need to hate interacting with people. You need to really have a technical mind and the desire to stare at drawings and data the rest of your career.

Bland and Dull? Ouch!

It's still a good degree to have. Just be ready to face some unpleasant realities. The bland and dull personality may form over time if you are not careful.

I am an engineer and am not dull or bland, nor do I have problems interacting with people. My job is all about helping people solve problems and communication is a large part of that. I understand the stereotype, but very few engineers I know actually fit that mold..

Desire, attention to detail, math ability, stick-to-it-ive-ness, "smarts".
