Do you think someone can have a successful life without going to school (college) for a career? Has it been done before, successfully right?

I'm 19 and I'm currently not enrolled in school, right now I went for a semester but didn't think college was the way I wanted to go yet, not so fast. I have a job that I can keep moving up on in life , don't know if ill have to go to school for any of it yet though. but does that make me unsuccessful because I'm not going to school?

Yes, if they hit the lottery or can rap or sing, but everything having to do with not going to college and still having a good life is a bunch of ifs. You should just go to college it isn't likely you're to become famous, it's much more likely you'll be working at Burger King.

Agreed. But alot if people have more potential than that. I would hope, it sucks for the people who can't pay for school and have to settle for less. But I think school is the right way to go, it's just up to a person rather they can do it and challenge themselves or not

Yes, that's very true. They could probably just go to a community college, it isn't Harvard

No, I don't think so. It depends what job you want to have later, and usually more manual jobs don't require and college. One good option is community college, if you are unsure. It is cheap and usually takes two years, and they are everywhere.

Yeah I know and at the same time you wonder what they did to get there. Haha , no days I feel like it's impossible to get anywhere in life without going to school for a degree, just wish there was a second option.

School does not always work for some individuals, and there have been some very successful individuals that did very well with limited education. Having said that, now that I am older , I have come to realize that most of us will benefit from the ability to make decisions and evaluate situations in life that education helps us to prepare for. It would probably be of benefit to you to return to school at some point as we do live in a highly comparative and fast- changing world. Hope this helps!

I feel like it is possible but it's getting more rare today. Like my dad who only did high school and started a multi-million dollar business... extremely rare in his case but can happen.
Lets just say pretty soon you might need a college degree to work a McD's.

eventhough you have other ways to get money without goin to school or bein educated or you making more money than your friend who has tons of degrees,id advice you to go to school, whether you know how to sing or rap,u should go ,bcuz u never know, maybe in the future ull may not be able to sing or rap,if u r a basketball player you may have an accident in the future n not bein able to play anymore.i think going to school is like double your luck to become successful in life.

I agree, if you saw, or heard, I'm sure you saw how fast Kevin wares life changed like that but he can still goto school for whatever is doing, but now basketball isn't really a choice for him, unless he recovers good. But anyways, I agree.

If by college, you mean a 4-year university where people go to get bachelor's degrees (and sometimes more), then of course people can be successful without going to college. There are lots of jobs that don't require a university education that people can do and earn a decent living and even more than that. But these days pretty much everything requires SOME kind of education beyond high school, whether it's at community college or a vocational school or through an apprenticeship program.

we all know there s a lotta good & advantageous jobs that doesnt require a university education,n we all know we can get more money than people who get degrees, but if she can afford it let her go

But that's just it; even public universities these days are terribly expensive. People are graduating with a bachelor's in social work and tens of thousands of dollars of debt.

How about a vocational school where you'll learn a trade? many people who are electricians, plumbers, or carpenters make very good money and have very nice homes. Every city in the country needs tradesmen and always will.

Of course it's possible .. Our previous generation were a perfect example. Some became tradesmen and women of some sort in order to find work..they worked where ever they could (and they couldn't be fussy) .. BUT .. things were different then. A high school diploma wasn't as important then as it is in the competitive job market as we see now days.

Now days, most jobs that could provide long term employment with sufficient pay are in high demand. Employers are depending on filtering out the 'non committal' type applicants by requiring at least a high school diploma. Having a high school diploma is not just about showing your academic skills .. but it shows character and importance of accomplishment.
