What is the etiquette for a baby shower where it is only the first child for one of the parents?

It is my first child but my husband has one from a previous relationship (there was a shower thrown for her at the time which all of his family already came to) I'm not sure how to proceed.... would inviting his family seem greedy since they have already given? Would not inviting them be rude and excluding?

Wow, tricky ? & it's always in a state of flux. It's a no -no after the 1st. There are exceptions though. If your children are from a previous father and the new father is a first time dad his family will probably be okay with a shower & it goes the other way as well. Also if the time between your pregnancies is 10 years or more. Family usually throw showers. Friends can do it too. Usually family are in charge and the friends contribute. If your other kids are still young and only a few years have gone since your last pregnancy then I wouldn't do it.

Well, if it was your second baby together, you would still have a shower as far as I know for the second and so on. You can always make a registry stating things you need so you don't get a repeat of something you can still use from the first.

Oh, sorry, that was a mistake. I mean you can make a registry with less expensive items or whatever you want. You're the mother and it's your first, so it would not be fair to celebrate.

Invite his family. I am sure they are excited about their new family member. People nowadays have a shower for each child. Plus if the first child is with its mother she has whatever was given, not you. I applaud you for thinking of how his family might view things. Way to many people think only of themselves in such situations. I bet you are going to be a great mom!
