i was shocked when my best freind 11 told me he was an athist what do ?

Nothing has changed between you two. If it bothers you that much, stop being his friend. That would not be very loving or loyal of you, though.

Let him have his beliefs. Like you, he has that freedom.

Do you really think by not telling your friend about Jesus Christ is being a friend,A true friend would want to bring her friend to Jesus Christ so that she could have everlasting life.
Report as
Your religion is not fact deb. Jesus is no more valid than Krishna and your hypocrisy is not helping your answer.
Report as
A friend accepts you for who you are- he doesn't try to change you into what he wants you to be.
Report as
You're wrong Deb, like these other two said. Maybe her friend doesn't WANT everlasting life, supposing your religion is a fact. Maybe her friend doesn't WANT everything that Christianity would give, supposing it's a fact. Maybe they don't want it. If this person is a true friend by bringing this person to their own belief system, then that would not be making this friend happy. THAT would be a horrible friend.
Report as
Deb, I am willing to step into anyone's shoes, not to tell them they are wrong, but to give them an image for their own scenario.
If you think that a real friend, is one that tries to save their friend, then you would find it acceptable for the atheist friend, to simply say "There is no god. I wish you could think logically"?

Don't you want your bestfriend to have everlasting life, what better gift is there then everlasting life to give a true friend.

Atheism isn't as bad as everyone thinks. It is just the lack of a religion. And it does not mean your friend is a bad person or had a tragic experience like some people believe, he just doesn't believe in any religion. So overall, just be his friend, and if he is your best friend, it shouldn't be a problem.

I've seen the comment a few times today that atheism is the lack of religion, but that is not true, Buddhists are atheist I think Taoists are as well. It is actually the lack of the belief in god or gods.
Report as
Yeah that's what I meant, my bad.
Report as
Buddhists aren't atheistic, some may be, but the religion in general makes no statement on deities. A Buddhist could just as easily be a hindu as an atheist.
Report as
Yes brethon, Buddhism has no gods, but I have ran into some that believe in the abrahamic god and some that believe in the Hindu, others that have no gods.

I see nothing wrong with it, I'm atheist and I have plenty of friends in all religions and they all accept me for it. Why wouldn't you do the same? He's still the same person just with different views on religion.

Pray for him. Try to be a witness to him. But don't discontinue your friendship because of this. He needs someone like you to convince him that Jesus loves him.

It's not friendship to try and change a person.
Report as
Says who?
Report as
Anyone who actually knows the definition. If you feel you have to change the beliefs of a person for them to be acceptable, you aren't their friend.
Report as
I accept them regardless. I'm just a good enough friend to care about their eternity.
Report as
So I guess you'd be totally cool with a friend constantly trying to deconvert you- after all, he's just concerned about your delusions.

Trying to change someone shows you don't accept them.

Christians are suppose to tell unbelievers about Jesus Christ in hopes of saving souls,if a Christian knows an unbeliever and dose not tell them about Jesus Christ then come judgement day there blood will be on your hands, when you tell an unbeliever and he then decides not to except Jesus as his savior then come judgementday there will be no blood on your hands.
Report as
So I have a lot of blood on my hands? I'm not forcing my beliefs on someone who wants to believe in what he/she believes in I'm not a Christian or Catholic religious lunatic that wants to spread my beliefs into people because their not religious. People are free to believe in whatever they want without someone telling them that their beliefs are stupid or unreasonable you don't see atheists spreading their beliefs onto people so why should religious lunatics bully them for being who they are.
Report as
READ,I never said to force anyone, but to tell them of Jesus.lol

Wow, Deb, congrats. That just shows how much you don't actually know about other religions. Someone says they're shocked about their friend being an atheist and you immediately think this person is a Christian.

Christians must be willing and bold in our actual sharing of the gospel. Proclaim the message of salvation through Jesus Christ to your friends and family (Romans 10:9-10). Always be prepared to speak of your faith (1 Peter 3:15), doing so with gentleness and respect. Ultimately, we must leave the salvation of our loved ones up to God. It is God's power and grace that saves people, not our efforts. The best and most we can do is pray for them, witness to them, and live the Christian life in front of them.

I have an atheist friend. I don't want to FORCE him to believe in God. I'll just let him believe what he wants to believe. You should do the same with your friend.

You don't do anything. It is his right to believe as he wishes, or not at all. A true friend accepts the other for who he is. He doesn't try to change that friend into who he wants him to be.

And all these Christians telling you to try and convert him would be horrified if he tried to deconvert you, and that is hypocrisy.

Good point. 13 is the youngest that someone is supposed to be on here. 11 seems a little young to decide on your own that you are an atheist. Does he even know what that means? I do think it's kind of a fad to clam atheism now. By the same token, at 11 I doubt that most people have made a reasoned decision to be a believer either. At that age I think most kids are whatever their parents are.
