Absolutely. "Things" are changing all the time, new info becomes available almost constantly. Teachers need to research & be up-to-date with the latest facts so their students are learning the most accurate information. For example, you wouldn't want a teacher telling you the earth is flat... 8)
I think that a good educator should also be a good researcher because if they say something, they should be ready to corroborate it with researched facts. Also, some facts, especially scientific facts, seem to change a lot, and a good educator needs to be able to teach the students the most valid and recent information he/she can.
