That's not really how it works. Fasting is just an act that shows commitment to God. And not an incredibly practical method either. Attend church, read the bible, that's what most people will say. But in my beliefs, isn't loving God, and believing and trusting Him enough? Wouldn't that be enough to become closer anyone else? Just my thoughts.
fasting is simply not eating food for a certain amount of time. If you do it for a penitential purpose, then even fasting for one meal would bring one closer to God. in this case, It is not the act itself, but the intention the act is based in that matters.
To gain closeness to Allah ( God ) a you should do the following things: 1. Believe in only one God. 2. Stay away from all sins. 3. Spend as much time as you can in praying. 4. Fasting is an act of worship that can be performed at any time and at any place except when not recommended. Indeed, it is a worship that draws the believer closer to Allah ( God ) and closer to perfection. So you can get closer to Allah by fasting Mondays and Thursdays or at least 3 days every month on the 14th,15th and 16th ( arabic calendar ) and also fasting the month of Ramadhan ( arabic month ). Words I love to Conclude. It is time to find out about Islam. It is time to find out about the truth by using your own Mind. A Time for Thought. A Time for Change. A Time for Action.
Fasting isnt to get close to God. If youre a Christ follower youre already as close to God as possible this side of heaven. Thats what Christ was tortured and died for. We cannot perform 'works' like fasting to get any closer to Him. Hes waiting there for you to reach out. Just talk to Him.

Personally, I believe we already have an abundance of divine revelation from God in His inspired, infallible Word which we aren't using or obeying as it is, so why would He give us anymore. So that we can disobey Him more.
We all love the thought of seeing spectacular signs, wonders, miracles, visions or dreams. To experience or even to imagine such occurrences excites us. But we need to remember that those things do not strengthen our faith. So then faith coming by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17) God's word is what increases our faith so we must immerse ourselves in it. Spending time listening to the still small voice of the Lord (1 Kings 19:12) in the quietness of His Holy Word is what draws us into that blessed place of closeness with Him.
Godisone is right! A closer walk with God IS Jesus! Prayer is the connection with God! (Not allah). Fasting would become works! But if you do fast, try this: Everytime your tommy growls for lack of food(if thats the form of fasting that you choose) and you feel hungry-- Thats the time to pray!
.. through confession, Bible study, prayer, regular church attendance, and obedience, we can develop a closer relationship with God. It seems rather simple, if not simplistic. But consider this: how do we develop a closer relationship with other human beings? We spend time with them in conversation, opening our hearts to them and listening to them at the same time. We acknowledge when we've done wrong and seek forgiveness. We seek to treat them well and sacrifice our own needs to fulfill theirs. It?s not really that different with our relationship to our Heavenly Father. Read more: http://www.gotquestions.org/closer-relationship-with-God.html#ixzz2QA0wZfEJ
