It depends on the plant. Some like lots of water and some prefer a soil that is on the dry side. In addition to this, it also depends on the humidity of the air in your home and how dry the air is outside. I usually just feel the soil and also wait until the leaves wilt a little. I would suggest you Goigle search the water and soil requirements for your specific plant.

Easiest way.... Take a pencil stick it in the soil at least half way down if it come out dry give the plant a good drink. Don't do that with succulents they usually like to be dry.

It depends on what plant, but in general..I soak the crap out of them and just check them every few days. A lot depends on how hot it is in your house. Dryer weather I tend to water them more, I've had tropical plants that I keep in doors in the winter and outside all summer and have had them for almost 7 years now.
Rule of thumb....If you stick your finger in the dirt and it's damp...leave it, but if it's really starting to get dry or the plant is starting to droop, water the heck out of it, then just leave it

How!!!At least 2 times everyday!!!!

Too much water prevents from the roots from being oxygenated, and they drown, unless they are specifically grown in the water. Try it, get a cheap plant and water it every day--see what happens.

Don't fill the pot completely!!! Let it get plenty of sunlight and water!!! (read your science book)

The best slogan for houseplants in my opinion is "benign neglect." Better to underwater than overwater. Check them once a week to see if the soil is dry. Some plants like to keep their feet wet (but not very many), most want the soil a tiny bit damp, like if you touch the top with your finger, some of the soil will adhere to your finger. Water from the bottom, put the pot in a container of water and let it set until the water level doesn't go down any more. Watch for insects and spray with Safer soap if you see anything. Don't get water on leaves that are "furry", like African violets. Make sure they get enough light, buy a grow light if you have plants in dark places. I use fish emulsion for fertilizer, follow directions on the bottle, it doesn't contain chemicals. Better a little dry than too wet, most plants will recover from a bit of dryness (their leaves can get a bit limp), but too much water kills them.

I totally agree from the above post that better to underwater not over-water. Watering of plants depends on several conditions such as atmosphere, humidity of the air etc. Plants demand water according to their need, some require more whereas some require less. For this criteria i think proper take care of plants must be done.

I agree...less is best, but I water my house plants about 2x week. Not everyday unless they are outside plants, those you would want to water every day this time of year (warm)

Depends on your plant, if you live in more warm areas, water it everyday. At summer here in China, we water it everyday. In winter, we water it every week 1 time.
