Yes, I have heard from some that they use toothpaste the white(not gel) to get rid of zits. Allow it to dry and then wipe off with a luke-warm water, then apply again. While there maybe topical medicines to use for zits, I would still recommend using a home made. Here are some that I use to make at home (found them helpful to reduce and get rid of zits and blemishes): First is using apple cider vinegar by swabbing it over the blemished area and don't rinse it unless you feel the need to take it off. Do this daily. You can also make use of honey and oatmeal mixture and apply on the blemishes as they are effective in treating and curing pimples. You can also try by rubbing the problem area with garlic, lemon juice or honey.
To dry out a pore, you can use an astringent such as alcohol or Seabreeze or witch hazel. To disinfect it (many "zits" are infected pores) you can use topical antibiotics, antibiotic soap, or clearasil. Benzoyl peroxide is also used and in severe cases, oral antibiotics. See a dermatologist if you have an unusual case. I would not cover zits with toothpaste, it's covering up a pore when the pore should do what pores do! see http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mobileweb/2012/10/23/toothpaste-pimples-acne-dry-out_n_1994320.html
