How can being a vegetarian be bad for you

Report as

While eating lots of fruits and veggies is healthy for you, if you aren't careful you could still end up malnourished if you aren't getting enough of the right sort of vitamins and minerals in your vegetarian diet. It requires a bit extra planning, but it can be done - just have to make sure you are eating enough veggies that are high in protein, and other essential nutrients.

The same way any other diet, carnivorous or omnivorous, could be bad for you...you don't eat the right things and don't get all the essential amino acids and nutrients your body needs.

I didn't know it can be bad but if it can then i guess it's because vegetarians don't eat meat and that's one thing everyone should eat

I've only known one true vegetarian, after the first week she looked all pale, with bags under her eyes, a few years later I saw her again (just a couple weeks ago) and she had gained a LOT of weight. I'm not sure how eating veggies would make her gain weight or if that even had anything to do with it, but she was pretty big.

Probably because she didn't make the right food choices - her diet probably had a lot of breads, potatoes and pastas in it. Filling, but pack on the pounds and not very nutritious either (at least not in large quantities, or if you don't still to the whole grains).

She was probably exhausted from fighting off the meat peddlers.
She needs protein and iron, generally not found in greens, abundant in beans. People have the misconception that vegetarians should be skinny but eating an overabundance of high sugar/ high starch fruits and veggies( avocado, potato, canned fruits) will pack on pounds.

It comes down to same thing with any diet. It needs to be balanced. Too many fruits and veggies that are high in carbs is like eating sugar. And not enough of the one that have protein will end up in loss of muscle mass.

Eating high starch/ sugar fruits and veggies will put on weight. Moderation is key. Legumes, beans are needed to replace protein and iron.
