What are some good ways to stop procrastination?

Report as

Start doing your tasks a small step at a time. Don't think about the huge project in front of you, but rather the steps you need to take to complete that task. Then do them!

Tell yourself "I am not allowed to go on Ask.com until ______ is completed." Once you complete a task, reward yourself with a treat and lots of praise :)

Just get off your lazy butt, and do whatever it is.

Looking for a way to stop procrastination ... is nothing more than another form of procrastination. "Oh, I can't do {whatever} now - I have to figure out how not to proscrastinate (put off doing something)."

Make a list of things you need to do. Then put them in order of importance. Then put them in order of easiest to hardest. Do the easiest important job first and keep going. Make a big check mark on the important list each time you finish one. Eat a piece of candy with each check mark!

Turn off the TV!! Go jogging, go to the public library. If you are in an environment where you can do something positive, most likely you will. 6 hrs in front of the TV is not positive.

Procrastination guarantees failure. To stop procrastination try setting small goals and make steps to complete. 21 days to make a habit! (remember tomorrow is the busiest day of the week, lol)

Just do what needs to be done right away then you have the rest of the day / night to do whatever it is you have planned . The longer you wait the more depressing it will become when the time comes that whatever is that needs to be done gets done .
Examples ...
Dishes , don't let em pile up get em done right away takes maybe what 15 min out of your life .
Homework for those that go to school , get it done asap then you have the rest of the night to do whatever .
Say you live at home and before you can go out to do whatever you have a couple things to do , the sooner they are done the sooner you can go out .

Tackle the most difficult task first. Divide the task into smaller tasks.Set a mid-day alarm. Dedicate yourself for a small period of time.Schedule your tasks on the calendar. With a detailed plan, you’ll be well on your way to ending the procrastination cycle once and for all.

There is only one way. You have to want something bad enough. If you are filled with desire, you'll get up and go for it!

You might have ADHD. See a doctor. If you do, medication will work wonders. If starting a task seems overwhelming set a timer and do it for just 15 minutes. It won't seem as overwhelming if you know from the start that you will only do it for 15 minutes. Then keep working for small intervals of time that seem manageable to you. Reward yourself when you are done. It also helps to have a buddy with you while you do whatever it is you need to do. Let him/her know that this is something that you have to do but find it difficult to get motivated so have that person be your motivator and his/her job is to keep you focused on what you have to do. Tell him/her that if he/she can get you to finish you'll treat him/her to ice cream or agree to do something nice for him/her.

Woah... sloww down... just because someone procrastinated doesn't mean that they have ADHD. I completely agree with everything else except the first three sentences. And BTW a regular doctor/physisian can't really diagnose ADHD accuratly anyway because its not part of their training.

Try the 10 minute block. Let's say you have a task you have been putting off - use an egg timer or even the timer on your stove and set it for ten minutes. Do something, anything on that task for 10 minutes until the timer goes off. If you are feeling good about what you are doing, set the time for another 10 minutes. If not, do something else and come back and try again later. Sometimes we don't know where to begin, sometimes the task seems to daunting...you can get a lot done in 10 minutes and the task may seem less difficult because of the 10 minutes you spent and it is easier to come back to or keep going on!

Think of WHY you need to do what you do. Because you will get a F Or get Fired and won't have a Job. As you grow it's easy to not procrastinate. You will Have, and paid the price. That loss...gets you movin. If you procrastinate about cleaning..eventually you will be a slob, and nobody wants to be with a lazy slob. So, it's really not too hard to do things.
