Why Is law still based off of religion when it's said not to be?

Why can't same sex marriages be passed everywhere? I'm straight but I have friends who are gay and I just think everyone should be able to get married.

Report as

Agreed. There is a difference between a religious marriage (ceremony in a church) and a secular marriage (getting the certificate and tax breaks.) The problem is that people have difficulty separating the two concepts.

Yes, it is based off of religion. Look up David Barton for more details on this subject (watch the American Heritage series.)

No it's not bad at all, home of the free. They should be able to be free and be who they are.

Hey SoraKH99: This Country aint free

Well, the founding fathers based the laws after the laws of the Bible. It is the land of the free, but I don't think back then, homosexuality was as big of a deal as it is now. Maybe it's because the Bible teaches that homosexuality is wrong (I'm actually against it, but I don't hate people or treat them differently if they're gay.)
Report as
Well that's what it entails, and nobody should be told who to love. More people then you know want gay writes. Does it effect you when you wake up in the morning? Does it making your life morbidly horrific? No it doesn't.

But laws cannot be based of religion now and it's not like they will turn around and crash our whole Eco system and kill planet earth but poking each other in the butts.

As one of my gay associates stated, it's not about love that we want this change, It's all about the money! He went on to say, if we want to be together, a piece of paper doesn't mean a thing, but when it comes tax, or need for insurance time, we're up the creek. He continued, Sure there are certain social diseases that come to some who openly risk others because they simply don't care, and has now forced all to seek redress in the courts to be granted forced access to insurance plans that will pay for the long term care of those who contract these diseases. that was the end of his rant. Even in the supreme court case on DOMA the case didn't consider marriage, it too was only about the tax burden and the moneys from an estate! While I personally don't care if they marry, until the gay community stops hiding behind these hidden agendas, I cant fully support any socially challenging changes to the true definition of marriage.

A lot of people see marriage as a symbol of love. And everyone should be able to have it if they want it.

I fully agree, but many in the gay community are pushing for far more than that, when they are fully truthful with these hidden agendas, THEN I'll fully support their cause. After all, we're all created EQUAL! When we live fully by the constitution, you'd be amazed what this country can accomplish.

I only we put our minds to it and could agree on something for once:)

I am amazed at this rush to approve of gay marriage. I mean, as little as 5 years ago, 65% of the population thought gay marriage to be wrong. How did it change literally in less than a generation? It is a propaganda job, absolutely.

Shiny, it didn't change, our progressive politicians have now decided to use this as a means of buying votes! The gay community still only comprises only 2.056 percent of our total population. This DAVID is going to beat the Goliath of societies resistance to this agenda sad to say.
Report as
Yes maybe gay percentages are small, but you also have to add in the millions of out going straight supports like myself.

Simply said, some people disagree with you, and they have outnumbered your opinion up to this point in most states. 37 states have passed bans on same sex marriage, and only 8 have approved it. Let time have its full effect, it's best not to rush things when cultural change is so fast. We may discover that it best to do civil unions rather than marriage for all states, and if there isn't any difference in Rights and Benefits, I say you are fighting not over rights but over labels.

Alot of people(Christians usually) believe that it's wrong to be gay and I agree w/ it. And a lot of choices are made because of what people believe in their hearts.

Well that's wrong, just because you or someone else believes in something, doesn't mean a whole society should have to suffer.

The same can be said for your position. Why should 63% of the nation be forced to change when they are simply against it for moral reasons, not many parents support a deviant lifestyle being offered as the new form of normalcy! And particularly when it carries so many hidden agendas with it.
Report as
They are not changing, it would not effect them! But it does affect the rest!
