Just started Atkins Diet and am constantly hungry.

I am 19 years old and extremely overweight (265 lbs) given that I am only 5.7". I have only been on this Atkins Diet for 2 days now, and the thing I am struggling with, isn't the craving for breads, its the craving for food in general.

After I eat a meal, I'll be fine for maybe 3 hours, and then all of a sudden I'm extremely hungry again. Is it just habit that I am constantly hungry (used to snacking all day long) or am I not eating enough variety (getting 12-14 carbs from vegetables, and 5-8 from meat).

Does anyone know anything low on carbs that is good to snack on between meals?

It's probably a little of both but mostly that your body is just used to eating. It's a odd phenomena the hunger trigger... my dad stopped one day on the way home from work and ended up buying a snack to eat on the way.. the next day he thought "that was really good, think I will get it again" then every day after that for weeks he would get hunger pains everytime he approached that store at that time of day... his body just got used to eating at that time.. took him weeks to get over it! LOL The BEST thing you can do is try to ignore the hunger, but if you must have something try to limit and reduce each time how much you eat. BTW Sugar Free Jello with some whipped cream topping tastes pretty good and is low in carbs :)

I was on the Atkins diet and it worked for me. I lost weight and lowered bad cholesterol and blood sugar. It does take awhile to get over certain cravings and later on when you can have more carbs it gets easier. For now you can have things like Bacon that would be off limits on a low fat diet. You can have salad with nuts. If you're craving sweets you can have a piece of fruit like an apple. There are low carb candy bars too that are sweetened with mannitol but be careful with them as they can have a laxative effect. Just stick with it. The cravings do decrease especially after you get to start adding more carbs back in. Just make sure that you eat lots of fiber and stay in ketosis. You'll really feel better when that weight starts dropping off. Just think about all the good stuff you can have like Bacon. Oh, and in your question you said you were getting carbs from meat. Meat doesn't have carbs unless there is sugar added. Like sometimes they put high fructose corn syrup in Bratwurst and stuff. You don't need that crap. High fructose corn syrup is bad and they put it in all kinds of stuff like mayonnaise etc. Make sure most of your carbs are complex not simple.
Read the book if you haven't already.

One more thing: you can eat between meals. Snack as much as you want on stuff that doesn't have carbs. Like meat.
