From this thing called A DICTIONARY-Poverty: the state or condition of having little or no money, goods, or means of support; condition of being poor. deficiency of necessary or desirable ingredients, qualities, etc.: poverty of the soil. scantiness; insufficiency: Their efforts to stamp out disease were hampered by a poverty of medical supplies.
The word "POOR" can be used in many ways - a rich person materially can be poor spiritually., Poor does mean to be lacking or in need of ..inferior. However, due to this being a religious site - I am going to touch on "being spiritually poor."
James 2:5 "Listen, my beloved brothers. God chose the ones who are poor respecting the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he promised to those who love him, did he not?
Being poor Physically is not the worst one can be - especially in these "critical times" - if we have a clear focus on what is going on around us and the answers to why the horrific things are going on (2 Timothy 3:1-5) - it will minimize the anxieties of not knowing.
So, poverty can take a meaning on various levels not only materially - or in respects to one's possession but also one's spiritual level.
