I got married in Hawaii and would do it again. It was just my fiance and I and another couple who were supposed to be witnesses and it turns out you don't even need witnesses to get married in Hawaii. It all depends on what's more important to you. I just didn't want to spend my hard earned money so that other people (except a few close friends and family) could eat and dance and drink and thousands of dollars for flowers that'll just die in 2 days. Use your money for a once in a lifetime trip and get married in a beautiful, romantic place.
It is cheaper to have a home wedding than a destination wedding. This is because you won't have to pay for the location and it will be convenient for the parties involved. Destination weddings often require a lot of resources in terms of transportation, venue, and guest arrangement.
