My tried & true cure: bend at the waist and sip water from the outer rim of a glass. With practice it works! Apparently drinking in that position changes the diaphragm and hiccups are gone. Works every time. :)

After the first hiccup I hold my breath for 10 seconds or more. It works almost every time and I now rarely get more than one hiccup :) if this fails gulp down a glass of water as fast as you can with out choking.
