Where did the taste for candies like watermelon or strawberry come from when they don't even have a taste...

Did people just think "This tastes red" or "If watermelon had a taste, this is what it would be"
two questions
what tastes are named after fruits but are sweetened or taste nothing like them

Ummm these things do have a flavor. Not sure what you are talking about saying they don't. Obviously someone thought they tasted good and put the flavor in candy.

Watermelons and strawberries have different tastes. Perhaps if you tried them in their actual form instead of their candy flavors you might notice a difference.
