How can I be less of a pessimist(negative person)?

Report as

By "renewing your mind" and thinking on things that show the possibilities and opportunities that are within life's set of circumstances u are in. There may also be clinical barriers to overcome that are more organic to the brain and less circumstantial (as in out side stressful influence). In either case cognitive therapy can greatly change your general outlook. This is a "renewing of your mind". Also, if outside influences (like negative people) that u have a realistic and appropriate control of are effecting u then remove yourself from them. At least for a time, so that u can regain a healthy outlook on your life. Go for it! :)

Smile more often, be nicer to people and and even if your not always positive, just pretend to be because sooner or later you'll feel more positive.

Pessimism is an elevated form of optimism. If you go through life expecting nothing you'll always be pleasantly surprised.

That is partially a wonderful answer! ;)
It is also most probable that if you expect nothing, you gain nothing....
Maybe with your answer we can see a need a balance of "realism" by not expecting everything to turn out easy and euphoric.

I claim neither pessimist or optimist, I am a realist.

Do u mean in the sense that negative feelings and outlook are "good" it that what happens to inside a person?

Think before you speak and ask yourself, 'Would I want this said to or about me?'

If you start to say something or think something that is negative...just stop yourself and change it into a positive. Just continue doing so...then you will just get used to it. Next thing you know, you will be on here asking how can you stop being such an optimist all the time. J/k (Being a pessimist is like a bad habit...you just need to break it.)

Hmm...I guess one pessimist should not try to give another pessimist advice on becoming an optimist. (I tried...at least.) :p

You're wrong in what you emailed me. It's just fine! :)

I think your pessimistic advice is great. ;)

Nah, this was a bad answer...I was trying to be an optimist, but failed...plus, it didn't come out quite right. Haha
Thanks anyway, sweet lady. :)

You're welcome, and you're wrong. :)

Yeah, that's why I am a pessimist. ;) (And am totally not helping the person that asked this question.)

Honestly, I don't see being a pessimist sometimes as a bad thing...as long as it doesn't "ruin" your life or bring down others. I feel that not always thinking that every single thing will come out "great"...leads to an even better feeling (sometimes) when you expect the worst, but get the best. (But, that's just my opinion.) A balance is always best...half optimistic...and half pessimistic...again totally depends on the situation.

You don't know that you did help the asker. I think you answer is good advice. :)
I agree with pessimism not leading to disappointment so much.
I wish I weren't so pessimistic. Has caused trouble in my love life. : (
