Thumb twice its size. no infected, didn't burn, bang, or cut it. not bitten. hurts enough to lance it. should I?

A fungus infection could do that, I wouldn't try and treat it myself, you're risking an infection that could be much worse. Get to your doctor.

Bursitis, tendonitis, tissue damage, arthritis, water retention, diabetes and continuous use of the thumb are some of the causes of a painful and swollen thumb. To establish the exact cause in your case, you should talk to your doctor for tests to be run.

No sticking things in it, not unless you want more issues, go to the doc

I'd go to a doctor before you try to do anything to it.

Id get some fresh ginger root and smash it as much as I could until its fibers break and its juicy then I would cover my thumb with it and wrap it in an ace bandage this will reduce the swelling you will feel some throbbing but dont worry about it this is just the swelling being reduced and circulation starting to return keep the bandage on for a few days if needed
