I prefer the Xbox but something keeps me loving the PS3 (only reason I prefer the Xbox is because the dashboard menu and Live is much better IMHO). I am a Sony fanyboy though and have owned both for years. If you are looking into getting one wait for Xmas for the PS4 and hopefully the new Xbox.
the ps3 and the Xbox 360 are both similar. if you want free internet, ergonomic controls, best-selling games, and smaller size then you should get ps3. but if you want multi-media device, virtual reality, and unlimited internet, then get the Xbox 360. you might also want the playstation move or the xbox 360 Kinect for more gameplay. (ps4 and xbox 720 are confirmed to be released from holiday 2013-early 2014.)
It really comes down to the games you like, overall the ps3 is cool because you don't need a membership to play online its included; with the 360 you need the gold membership for online play and most apps. for example I play gears of war and used to play the crap out of Halo, neither can be played on ps3 and so far ps3 hasn't really released anything that xbox doesn't have other then uncharted and a new zombie game that does look pretty sweet both have call of duty and the sports franchises but truth be told all the games that I have found worth playing for more then the 3 days it takes to beat them is on the xbox(gears of war3, halo 4, gears of war judgment, left 4 dead 2, borderlands 2) my money will always go for the 360 the games they have that ps3 doesn't makes the decision for you whats the point of owning a console if you cant play the latest releases of kick-assery
+Good graphics on most games and supports hdmi before xbox 360 +Free online system +Well made store +Blu ray is built in Hardrive +Psp and PSVita support +PS3's are cheaper than Xbox 360's -Bad security (Stolen card info, Hackers, Etc...) -Bad Controller model -No Halo -No Minecraft +Terraria -No Gears of war
+Good controller model (Naturally adjusts to thumbs) +Good free games -No Terraria -Not so good graphics -Very expensive -Online is not free +- Good security (But there are still a few hackers) +Minecraft +Halo
In my opinion PS3 is better but xbox is still okay

I prefer PC but if you need to get a console then I like the PS3. This is a personal Opinion so yours may be different. The PS3 is NOT however guaranteed to play every game perfectly *cough*Skyrim*cough* but the exclusives are more plentiful and IMO better (I love Halo and Gears though). If you don't care about any of these things and play online then get what your friends have. I just like playing single player stuff on PS3 but multiplayer is great too. Tomb Raider and Uncharted online are great. same with killzone and PS3 exclusives have fantastic graphics and gameplay. Like I said this is very Opinionated so go by what you like. research things about both, talk to friends, maybe find a way to try each. No matter which you choose you will have fun. (or you could get a PC and customise it however you please and get the best of both worlds (and fantastic online service with mega sales every day of the year) and you will have a great time building it too... well at least I did.) anyways good luck on your gamer quest man. ALSO the PS3 is best if you want a game system/entertainment system combo. (You have to pay for Gold AND netflix to watch netflix on xbox its stupid)
i prefer ps3, most games you can get for both systems except a few like the reason most people get xbox is halo but i dont care for it. I do the same for nintendo only get it for Pokemon nothing else well except monster hunter.

This question is still being asked to this day? Lol
Depends on what games and/or console features you're interested in, and what consoles your friends have. I have all three consoles, plus I'm a PC gamer, but 90% of the games I have are all exclusive to the particular platform I bought it for. However, I prefer the ps3 for these reasons:
Blu-ray support The feel of the D-Pad Cross-platform support for PC gamers JRPGs Free online play Can use the ps3 controller as a PC controller (motionjoy drivers) Non-proprietary upgradable HDD (uses the same as laptops) REGION-FREE (can play Japanese and European games on an American ps3, and vice-versa) Sometimes the games have content exclusive to the console
Misconception: PS3 supports full 1080p (while Xbox360 relies on upscaling), but not all games are in 1080p (only 30% of my PS3 games support 1080p)
XBOX 360, this is because it has a fan so it wont over heat, it can play way more games then the PS3 could ever, it has minecraft, you can have friends on there, make a character for your profile, get achievments, you can chat with people, you can even talk to them face to face with the Kinect, and it doesnt steal ideas from other game companys like Sony does.
a PC. -full customization -almost any game ever -more games -no spending $300 every time a new system comes out -if you wanted, every game for free -pc allows better movement in games -mods -multitask -emulators the only bad thing i could see is having a higher price point. but if you build your own you can get a really good computer for $500 and if you want it to be just for games you can get it for like $400

For the consoles, then in a way statistically PlayStation 3 is slightly better, but I would prefer XBOX 360 because the two things XBOX 360 is better at count way more than anything else: Gaming graphics and Online Experience, but if you want to get the best stuff, get a gaming PC! (But they're expensive!)

Well the XBOX 360 has better games and it doesn't automatically download games onto your hard drive like the PS3. But the PS3 gets free online (PSN) unlike the XBOX 360 (XBOX Live). I do suggest getting a good memory card on the PS3 and a good hard drive on the XBOX. But if you don't really like to spend money on things like this then I'd suggest getting a PS3. The only real problems I've had to deal with, with the PS3 is how it automatically downloads games and if you don't have enough memory, you'll have to delete another downloaded game. The other problem is the 'Master Account'. Your first account over the age of 18 will become the 'Master Account', and the only one as a matter of fact. So do NOT delete that master account or else you will never get it back. The XBOX doesn't really have any flaws like this besides how Microsoft charges you money to play online. But I would suggest a computer of the both of these consoles.
