Pit Bulls really shouldn't be used as gaurd dogs. They are too lovable, and tend to lick and snuggle attackers. I guess if you want to kill someone with kindness, get one of them.

Definitely look into getting a puggle (half pug half poodle) They are so cute :) or if you want to breed maybe a pug and a poodle then you can have lots of little baby puggles :D

I would say Golden Retriever hands down. They are easy to train! They will love you more than anything! They are very loyal and dependable! They have great personalities and are a great family dog. I have a 9yr old golden retriever and he is the bestest friend I have ever had!<3 and if not get a dog from the pound! That would mean the world to that dog<3

Do some research about breeds that fit your lifestyle. There are rescue groups for every breed in existence. When you find the breed, rescue one.

German Shepherd. They are extremely smart. I have one named Zeke and he is so smart he can open our car door. ^-^ Also I think Pitbulls are great. People think they are mean but thats only if their raised that way. I also have a Pitt and she is the furthest thing from mean.

A big guard dog? I think great Pyrenees are the best for that. They are really loyal and attached to their owners. Make sure you get it as a puppy though, so you can train it yourself and ensure it doesn't have any biting history. Getting one from a rescue is always a great idea, but sometimes it is hard to find puppies and young dogs. DONT get a Pit Bull for gaurding, they are terrible at it because they love everyone so much. Trust me, I have had one, and you will have to do the gaurding, because dog fighters are always stealing them. I think a Doberman or German Shepherd would be good as welll, they are really loyal and protective. I would not recomend a rottie unless you want 24/7 protection, because in my experience when they are trained to gaurd they just want to constantly gaurd and don't want to play around. Good luck finding a dog, remember NO Pit Bulls, I really don't want you to return a Pit Bull to a shelter because they don't gaurd very well.

I have a German Shepherd and a pit bull and love them both dearly, but be forewarned that it is nearly impossible to find housing with them in a lot of areas. As far as guarding goes, be careful with that too- you don't want to train your dog to be aggressive or a "guard dog" because it might bite someone and land you in court. I would suggest a Labrador Retriever or a dog from the pound. Most dogs will protect you if they feel you are in danger, but not all breeds are accepted by landlords. Something to consider...

honestly i have a cute dachshund who is kind, gentle, an awesome mix of a hound too. She is also very quiet, a good listener and never disobeys her commands. She can sit, stay, watch, come and a lot more. big dogs can't always be nice. a german shepherd may be cute, but they can harm people too. honestly, a guard dog can protect you but you want a dog that can love you, and a dog that can cuddle up next to you. =)!!!!!!!!!!!!

A Pit Bull is an absolute MUST! They are very good at guarding and, believe it or not, are great with kids! They are very protective of them and make great family pets. Just make sure that if you are planning on getting one, your state/country allows this breed. They're the best!!! :)

If you want a dog that is gentle, smart, easy to train, very loving, and is ALWAYS happy to see you a Golden Retriever is the pet for you. If you want a guard dog, maybe not. Golden's think everyone is their friend. Whatever pet you choose be prepared to take time with them and treat them well. Good luck!

You should get a Rottweiler or German Shepard. They are both good dogs, and if trained right, can be awesome guarding dogs. They are both very protective of their owner(s) and property.

My Red Pomeranian is a joy. He came from a shelter in Tenn. (not abused-family could no longer take care of him). He loves everybody and "smiles" all the time. He is 22 lbs, big for that breed. I would definitely get another Red Pom if I could. VERY good with kids too. Oh..his name is T-BONE.
