If you have forgotten your iPad password and you havent backed it up...if you connect it to iTunes and restart will it erase everything?

I am locked out of my iPad and i didnt back it up. does this mean that regardless of what i do to restore it, it will still be wiped...( it belongs to the school)

If you encrypt an iPad backup on iTunes and then forget your password, you will not be able to restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable. If you forget the password, you can continue to back up and use the device, however you will not be able to restore the encrypted backup to any device without the password. You do not need to enter the password for your backup each time you back up or sync.

If you cannot remember the password and want to start again, you can use a SmartKey iTunes Backup Password Recovery to unlock iTunes backup password at first. Check out http://goo.gl/ile6Tz for more details.

Do not use iTunes to recover your password to avoid the loss of data. Restore the iPad using the computer you last restored it with which allow you to reset your password and re-sync the data from the iPad. There is more on this at https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4629370?start=0&tstart=0.
