If the size of a television is 39 inches and the television is 15 inches tall how wide is the television set? using the Pythagorean theory.

the Pythagorean theorem is A^2 + b^2=c^2
therefore a is 39 b is 15. square both of those numbers. once you have that number find the square root of that number. it might come out even, it probably wont though.

a^2 + b^2 = c^2. c is the diagonal, 39 inches, a is one side, 15 inches, b is the unknown side. 15^2 + b^2 = 39^2. Solve for b (using b=15 inches and solving for a is also correct).

Since a TV is rectangular in shape, the corners are all right angles, meaning you can apply Pythagorean Theorem. This means 39^2= 15^2 + X^2. This translates to 1521- 225 = x2. This means X is 33.10 inches.
