What is the best way to politely ask someone to back off with out making them angry?

My boyfriend and I have been going out 8 months. He is a total sweetheart and makes me super happy. Before I dated him I was in an abusive relationship and I get very nervous easily. I am 18 and my boyfriend is 16. We are very happy together, however his dad is an over controlling freak! He texts us when we are on dates, tried to DRIVE US TO PROM, tried to make my hair and makeup appointments, and even went so far as to call my mother to make mine and my boyfriends plans or us! I don't want to break up with my boyfriend, and I don't want his family to hate me. I hate drama and I hate causing arguments. I just want everyone to be happy. If I was to ask his dad back OFF what would be the most polite way to say it so he doesn't get mad?

I would have your boyfriend ask his father if he could back off a little, it would be incredibly offensive if you said that to him (even if you try to be polite about it). Your boyfriend could tell him "Dad, I don't mean to be rude or anything, but could you maybe back off a little when it comes to [your name] and I's relationship? I want her to know that I'm a man." Well, maybe he shouldn't add that last sentence but, oh well. Good luck! ^__^

Honey, I'm sorry to tell you this, but you need to run, not walk, as far away from these people as you can get. This man is an overbearing control freak, and he will only get worse the longer you are with his son. Neither you nor anyone else can change him, and if you told him to back off you would piss him off to the ends of the earth.

The worst thing is that it's more likely than not that his son will be the same way with you as time passes. Young men learn how to treat women from their fathers, and your boyfriend has been indoctrinated into this man's way of thinking for all of his life.

It sounds like they don't really trust you.. Honestly, I know you dont like drama, but if you really want to be with your boyfriend, you need to talk with his and his family.

Perhaps you could ask to talk to him privately? And say something like
"I know you are trying to be helpful, I very much appreciate it. However, I feel a little awkward when you go so far out of your way. I would really like it if you could let (insert name of your boyfriend here) and I have a little more privacy about our relationship."
Say this in the most respectful and appreciative tone you can muster while still managing to be sincere.
Or as Minji said ask your boyfriend to to it. It depends on what you feel will go over best.

He will hate her forever if she does. He's a control freak who's out of control himself, and that kind of person can't be reasoned with.
